Never mind the freaking Browsers, it's way too personal and it's Great/Sucks so there you have it.
That's not why we use either DAW anyway...
An annoying thing in BW is the pianoroll not defaulting to show Velocity. I need to open the velocity every single new Instrument track. Hello???

I'm just gonna say it, I hate every browser made for every DAW I've ever tried, I hate the Windows and Mac OS browsers as well, So many areas where it's 'almost' there, then some annoying area where you wonder how this ever became normal? DP11 has a great plug in browser, but the general audio file / DAW browser is terrible. Live and Bitwig both have weird plug in browsers in that nothing is sortable on your own without workarounds.
Someone somewhere is going to come up with a plug in browser that searches by editable tags, and I might be in my 90's by that time, but I will seriously consider switching to whatever DAW does this.

It's a good idea, look at something like Serento sample- can identify key and accurate tempo, ATLAS etc can identify the type of drum/sound from file analysis- tagging could be semi automatic!machinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 6:34 pm Someone somewhere is going to come up with a plug in browser that searches by editable tags, and I might be in my 90's by that time, but I will seriously consider switching to whatever DAW does this.
I am surprised no DAW ever partnered with https://www.sononym.net/ to do this...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Sure, and it will take ten minutes to tag a single plug in, but after you spend a month tagging your plug ins, it will be great! You will need to learn some code to do this, but it's so flexible. I only know a half dozen DAWs but the closest is DP11, and it's not smart, it's just folders you can load plug ins into and name after a tag, say folders for bass, or drums for instance, it's just a reference, so samplers like Kontakt and Falcon can be loaded into both folders.SLiC wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 6:56 pmIt's a good idea, look at something like Serento sample- can identify key and accurate tempo, ATLAS etc can identify the type of drum/sound from file analysis- tagging could be semi automatic!machinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 6:34 pm Someone somewhere is going to come up with a plug in browser that searches by editable tags, and I might be in my 90's by that time, but I will seriously consider switching to whatever DAW does this.

I'm not even talking AI, Sononym wouldn't be able to tag plug ins for instance. Sononym should be bought by someone, I can't believe they're still not Apple Silicon native..
You should be able to tag a plug in with its various uses so that a search for percussion brings up Atlas, Battery, and Kontakt; a search for bass brings up Diva, F'em and other good sources of bass etc.

There are plenty of threads where the issues with VST3 have been discussed in depth. No need to start it again here.SLiC wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 1:33 pmHow so? Sure- but tried a search, couldn't find any threads on why VST2 was superior to VST3 for Midi...was interested as I have all my VST2 hidden in Bitwig...pdxindy wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 7:27 pmThere are plenty of threads where the issues with VST3 have been discussed in depth. There is something I like in Bitwig more than in Live. Something essential for me, and that is the shortcuts.
I'm trying to get used to it but man I use a lot some shortcuts and it is so easy in other DAWs. For example, "S" for split or cut in some DAWs while it is ctrl+E in Live! Another one is "Q" for quantize, while it is ctrl+U in Live! It is not easy to remember if you have 3-4 DAWs and jump between Windows and Mac!
On the other hand, I like a lot the "B" shortcut for the Pen tool. I like its simplicity, although it took me a long time to get used to this simplicity coming from the beefy tools of Cubase, but once I'm get used to the "B" darling, it is difficult to go back to the overcomplicated Cubase (especially Windows version). Although, I can't stop thinking of "It should be E or P not B"!
Anyway, I'm concentrating on Live now and have it only with Reason installed in Windows, while in Mac it is Live and Logic. It is my main DAW now, so I'm accepting both its positives and negatives.

I personally like my tools in the 1-5 keyboard position. Like in Bitwig its 1 for select, 2 for marquee, 3 for brush/pen, 4 for erase(?), and 5 for cut. Similar to S1 which also uses the top number row for tool switching.EnGee wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 8:05 pm There is something I like in Bitwig more than in Live. Yes, this is the best. Also in Reason it is one raw. Anyway, I'm getting used to "B" as it is the only one I use nowapoclypse wrote: Wed Jan 04, 2023 10:51 pmI personally like my tools in the 1-5 keyboard position. Yeah on the subject of shortcuts, Bitwig is far better than Live, IMO the only areas it's not great are where it copies Lives shortcuts. Logic (mostly) and Bitwig have the most obvious straightforward default shortcuts for things like subwindows etc. [Logic changing to multi key switching for tools is a huge F- though]
