Audio Interface with inputs for turntable sampling, solid drivers and software???

Hello, I just summited a return on my motu m2 that I bought. I didn't know xlr inputs could not run with line level as turntable inputs. So, I was thinking on buying motu m4 till I read Input 3 and 4 on the M4 are calibrated for pro line level signals. A phono preamp is not designed for this type of input.

All I need is an input for monitoring, inputs for the turntable, and to run my Novation fl37 controller with low latency. Basically, like the other post here about reliable and easy-to-configure drivers and software. I'm running windows 11, and my budget is 300 to 500. ANy help would be appreciated.

I haven't ever used an M2 but had a quick look on the sales blurb and the pics look like the usual combined XLR/line inputs. Are you sure it can't take line level inputs? Usually those type of inputs have the option of XLR and the middle hole is for 1/4" line level jacks. Each input can take either/or. I'd be surprised if those inputs are only XLR - they don't look like it...

I double checked. From MOTU M2 manual:

"These two XLR/TRS combo jacks accept a mic cable or a
quarter-inch cable, balanced or unbalanced, from a guitar
or line level source."

You can use your M2 for line level from turntable, instruments, HiFi or whatever. You also can use it for XLR inputs. Actually that's quite well-specced as not all interfaces can do both balanced and unbalanced. It actually says on the front underneath the inputs: "mic/line/guitar"

Turntables require a RIIAA equalized phono preamp, you can’t put in a RCA line in without

lol... you think I need a phono preamp though?? Because when I connect the turntable to my integrated amp the volume is low and I have to turn it up a good amount to hear it loud, and my amp has a lot of power. Then I would have to buy a new turntable because this one doesn't have ground and I want my stuff to sound good. I got this turntable at goodwill for 40 bucks it's a rather cheap one, but I'm not buying too of an expensive one anyway.

Can’t you just get a second hand hifi amp, they all used to have phono inputs

Yes.

If it's difficult to find one of those cables then you could also just use 1/4" to 1/4" cable and put an RCA adaptor jack on one end - all decent music stores used to sell different jack adaptors (electronics stores etc online will sell them). Or RCA to RCA and put a 1/4" jack adaptor on one end. If your turntable has a line level switch you don't need another amp etc.



You can get adaptor jacks for pretty well any fitting to any fitting, mono and stereo. I've got a jar full of them from my old hw studio days way back when and they still come in useful, especially now I'm getting back into hw synths in a big way. I used to use them to run HiFi tape decks, turntables and all sorts into my PC soundcard. Also for connecting hifi to mixers, 1/8" headphones into 1/4" headphones, video to PC/mixer - you name it, there's a connector for it.

I actually bought the wrong cables already, I bought xrl to rca. lol
