Yamaha where are thou?

Well yamaha patented the AN-x name a few months ago and according to the keyboardplayer of jamiruquoi something new is coming .
Both their new cy an cp keyboards are doing pretty well and look stunning, if the new an-x will have that form factor , color me interested.

Yamaha has some amazing tech as seen in the VL-1, VP-1 synths and it's a great shame that this hasn't been developed further. Even Montage is a bit of a disappointment when its FM engine is compared to AFM in the SY-77, SY-99 synths. They have amazing tech and IP, just that there's evidently no will to be as engaged in the synth market as they were in the past.

I'm inclined to agree. FM-X is fantastic...but I've mostly given up waiting for Yamaha to include the SY-series elements in it, which seems kind of obvious, and worse the FS-1R. When you look at the FM-X programming screens, there are literally spaces among the parameters where the FS-1R format information should go. It totally looks like, at one time, this was the plan--but for whatever reason, Yamaha shrugged and decided this was good enough.

And more's the pity, because including the SY-series and FS-formants into FM-X would have made it the best of all. It's SO CLOSE, and yet...they missed the obvious.

The synth line of Yamaha is similar, yet still more spartan, with the types of products available today from the other big manufacturers. What I mean by that is either you have these behemoth workstations or these piddly "micro" synths.

There is little to no in between.

I'm guessing with the Pandemic era, the R&D got slimmed? The last News on their Music Production site is from 2021.
