Perhaps a bit necro, but...

I'm glad I peeked at this thread, didn't know about the philaudio VST, will be checking it out.
Also, I really enjoyed the effect that putting SoftAmp 3OD (just a smidgen, mind you) on the master had toward "freshening up" a track, some oomph and air was seemingly gained without jacking the dBs, losing dynamics, or sounding over-crispy (this was placed before some mild compression and limiting). Probably won't be a good idea for all material, but on this particular, dance-oriented 80's-flavored synthfest of a piece, it worked quite nicely (Now to just get the arrangement to the point where I wouldn't mind other people listening to it, ha).

it would have been perfect if not that obnoxious denormal problem it has...

For free: TesslaMkII, check out the various models.
Add money: Satin, delivers. Call it mojo, warm, analog, whatever. It can color signals in very nice different ways. Very good sounding delay, too.
I use these two in a combo often. ;-)

As I like less digital sounding stuff, I researched what can reduce that digital sharpness and this is the list I came up with:

Coloration: PSP Vintage Warmer 2(actually a limiter), Fabfilter Saturn, Klangheim SDRR
Compressor: Cytomic The Glue, NI Supercharger GT, PSP Busspressor/Mastercomp/Oldtimer
Reverbs: Overloud Breverb 2

I can confirm Vintage Warmer 2 and The Glue are not hype, they really do add some nice color to the sound.
Haven't tried or demoed the rest enough to confirm how good they are, though I must say Breverb 2 sounds good. I only tried stuff without iLoks/USB protection, otherwise Softube and Lexicon and IK would be on that list. NI also has some classic compressors made by Softube too.

As mentioned by multiple people in this thread, the cdsoundmaster vsts sound the most realistic imho by far.

If I didn't have those I would probably stick to Klanghelm's saturation plug. It's super cheap and versatile for almost any type of saturation sound (minus tape).

One newer offering is the goodhertz saturation plugin that offers a tube stage. I have not tried it personally but there are folks that claim it is highly useful.

There are lots of them right now. I like Overloud Comp670 and Sculptube.

Yes, 573 plugs, to be exact.

Do you want us to list 'em all ?...

Otherwise, you could be going the free route with eg. Voxeng's TubeAmp (set to DualMono) or GSatPlus (go to "Tubey" preset and tweak from there) or Shattered Glass Audio's SGA1566 ...
or the cheap route with eg. Klanghabitat's Cassiopeia (cheap price but no so cheap sound. on the contrary) or BB Tubes (emulation of the tube gear used on BB King's "Oh BayBB, oh BayBB" and the Beatles "Let it BB". hey, nowadays, we HAVE to emulate something, right ?... :ud: ).
