I have a long, huge audio file, which i need to split to export "simple" samples or wavetables to be used as source for VSTs like Vital etc. The result will be about 150 single files, so it is a huge project (for me, at least) as i have to find the loop points for each of them, building the wavetables etc.

I'm really out from the Wave editors world: i had an old copy of Sound Forge which was great to mark "zones" in the wav but not so much in the UI (zooming in and out and scrolling the file was hard, i recall). Anyway, I don't have access to it anymore.

So i'm asking what editor should i look for, 'cause it happens often than one is better for (say) polishing an audio file but not so much for a "single-sample-precision" task like this one.

Are the split points regular or marked by silence? If so SoX can be useful if you like the command line. Personally, I like Reaper for this type of task

The obvious answer here is WaveLab or SoundForge.

It's kinda sad that Waveedit seems to be abandoned (last released version in 2018)...

Well, it probably suits the purpose of the hardware it was intended for...

Also, it is open source, so there's scope for anyone to keep going with it. There's at least one recent fork out there...

Now this is a bit of an advertisement, but I think some of my old software might be helpful. Perhaps you could try the free Endless WAV and Session2WAV? They might have some problems with Windows 11, but they should work with older windows versions.

Session2WAV will be helpful to split the file into the 150 single files. After that, you could simply load the first single file in Endless WAV and find loop points. There's an option to switch to the next file, so you just need to do this for every file in your folder.

Use FlexiMusic Audio Editor.
Open the large wave file, Mark each part as bookmark (using bookmark tab)
Then use the single command "Save-Bookmark" under Home tab.
This will save all the marked parts to different files.

Best audio editor for Samples/Wavetables creation?
