Hi! In a recent studio reshuffle I got rid of my Strymon El Capistan. Can anyone recommend a delay plugin that has a similar type of sound?
I've tried playing with the Soundtoys EchoBoy, but I was not getting the results I was hoping for. I know the El Capistan is DSP driven, so I was hoping it would possible to find a decent in-the-box replacement.
Thanks!

There are hundreds of tape echo plugins! It would be hard to recommend one a specific one because it's such a matter of taste! I mostly use Audiority's Plexitape (and Echoes T7E Mk II for Echorec sounds) or a tape emulation like U-he Satin or Waves J37 for a studio delay sound..
Lots of different tape delays in Amplitube too ( or other amp Sims I assume!)

^ as mentioned there are many different tape echo plugins. I was going to reply but then I realized I didnt know specifically what you are looking for in terms of echo character. If could explain in more detail and/or post some audio examples I can make a suggestion.

El Capistan is a multi-head tape echo with a spring. I'd suggest Outer Space by Audiothing.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will give Plexitape, Outer Space, Space Delay, and Stardust 201 a try. That should keep me busy for a while

While modelling some of the character of classic tape delay, El Capistan seems to have more open, clean sound to my ears... until you shove it through a guitar amp that is.
It's hard to find a similar plugin as everyone tends to go dark gritty and dense with their tape delay emulations. You could consider NI Replika or Waves H-Delay with Analog setting on 3 or 4 (tape emulations). You can use the additional controls to clean them up a bit, like the HP and LP filters.
