Buy used. I got a pair of Genelecs for less than $500 on eBay, from a studio that was upgrading. I've had them for more than a year now, without any problems. If you want to buy something new, find a store with a good range of monitors and a listening room and decide for yourself. Take some music you know really well and spend an hour or two trying out different monitors.

The last thing you should do is listen to anyone here trying to tell you their monitors are best.

Krk gen 4 offers a phone app for adjusting the onboard eq to fit your room, which for me was priceless since i dont have audio treatment. To my ears the monitors sound the same after eq to my reference headphones. I guess this benefit is not great if you're willing to use a 3rd party room eq app. You should certainly eq monitors in an untreated or partially treated room. Krk might not be the cheapest, but they're in the budget price range and an incredible value.

I absolutely love my RCF Ayra Pro.
They're available in different sizes with different frequency ranges.
I have the 8.

Also got KRK Rokit RP5 G4 and they're really great for that price. In my case they're far from ideally placed in the room, but I could use some of the internal EQ settings to improve on that. However, detail is not the same as my Reference Phones. But I really do like their sound, they're very comfortable to work with.

I've also compared a few other Monitors like the RCF Ayra, but went with the KRK because they had a very low noise floor (not perceivable for me).

What budget studio monitors can you recommend?
