a) Purple Rain (I guess that's what you refer to) was a huge success

I have a hunch that this is might be your point, but then it would of couse be an epically failed one, as

b) a huge part of Prince's whole artistic (and maybe his personal too) identity was to completely reject gender-stereotypes.

c) the article I linked to explains that "just one generation later, the women’s liberation movement ushered in unisex baby clothing once again, which remained in vogue until the mid-1980s". Purple Rain was released in 1984.

No, it was "omega humour".

I thought I didn't like the pinky purple GUI because I thought it looked crap. I now realize that I was actually acting out of the cultural brainwashing I received as a child. I hope I may be forgiven in time for this humongous misstep. Like I said the last time ... it will never happen again. :(

Who knows? Perhaps not even you do yourself (culturally learned things are often deeply ingrained in our minds - for instance little kids don't find poo-smell to be unpleasant) but it doesn't really matter anyway as this is not about you personally/individually.

Please forgive me if I am wrong, but I do not remember any other colour - in general - to receive nearly as much antipathy as pink - and subsequently purple - does amongst the good folks who roam these kinds of music-making forums; mind you: a clientele that is still pre-dominantly male.

Your post reminds me of these shootout threads over at Gearspace:

someone shares some audio-examples that compare some cheap-gear (often the recipient of a fair dose of snobbery) to a much lauded expensive competitor. It's a blind shootout. The vast majority prefer the inexpensive specimen. Next the thread-starter reveals what is what. And from that moment on the result is reversed. People come in, often starting their verdict with "didn't read the thread and have no idea what is what, but... ". When people then mention that the current voting trend is the complete opposite to how it was before the revelation, they are of course in full denial and with many words defend their own verdict.

Only: it doesn't matter. Perhaps one or two of them tell the truth. Who knows?

A trend is a trend, regardless of indivual predispositions.

Genius :hail:

Oh wait! I just got an email from Waldorf and I think their Quantum MK2 in blue, with 'wooden sides' etc looks horrible.

Perhaps I'm cured. :tu:

I think you're reading too much into the male/female thing (I realise we're joking around though), but the pink/purple GUI is just a practical issue for me. Staring at a soothing black/dark grey/dark blue GUI is better for me than glaring colours (I would also have issue with yellows and bright greens, blues etc. for instance).

I own a FIZMO which has similar colour choices. It doesn't make it look good. I suppose it has a cool retro look, except it already looked retro when it came out :D

That's certainly fair enough! :-D

I love the Fizmo's look, but yeah, the Z1's casing is certainly better from a useability perspective.

The radical pink is actually my favorite skin!
