VSL are nobody to look at for clean code though, they're in pretty much exactly the same boat as NI, in fact far behind with maybe one product ported to Apple Silicon. VST3 is still not hosted in the VEP server etc. etc. IMO that fiasco is one of the biggest product misses in the game, had they simply ported the plug in version to Apple Silicon they could have made bank off of new customers using it as a ways to host incompatible plug ins on an old Mac or PC.psycho45039 wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:42 am Also VSL went there own way. The Kontakt factory library had VSL samples included in it at one point in time.
Sad state of Native Instruments

The bottom line is Native Instruments have proven time and again that your plugin investments are not safe with them. They have discontinued just about everything they’ve developed.

Maybe I’ve been lucky in the 15 years I’ve had NI products. I did want Kore back in the day, but it got axed before I bought one. I can’t think of anything in all that time I can’t use now, and I’ve stayed reasonably up to date.jamcat wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:13 pm The bottom line is Native Instruments have proven time and again that your plugin investments are not safe with them. I’m not holding NI up as any kind of beacon of virtue and I’m disappointed about plenty, but some of the apocalyptic posts do feel slightly absurd.

Yeah that it ridiculous - apparently they’re working on it (!). The craziest part is that you NEED their VST3 plugin in the DAW to access all the instances, and that’s been the case for a decade or more. So they are reliant on the technology they don’t support.

not even sure why we are discussing ni, they were going out of business years ago according to some threads back then. none of those people predicted anything correctly when they did drop kore, they seemed to bounce back stronger if anythingnoiseboyuk wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:33 pmMaybe I’ve been lucky in the 15 years I’ve had NI products. To be fair though I predicted they would drop more stuff, and lots of people including their own moderators on the NI forum said I was mistaken, that NI were done dropping things, and Absynth is tah Dah! GONE!
Also to be fair, NI are a huge target, and we're probably always going to have people complaining about them, just like Melda will always complain about Apple, and Bones will get banned on occasion. It's part of the KVR fabric like your off topic posts.

I stopped caring about NI long time ago.
I mostly used kontakt for acoustic sounds, but since I started using Yamaha MODX, I have all my acoustic sounds in one box with zero loading times and I've become way more productive than I ever was with kontakt.

To be fair here, NI are not alone at all. Ohm Force went from timely updates anytime Mac or Windows had a change, to just gone. Redmatica and Camel got bought out by Apple. AudioFinder went from constant updates to nothing including answering emails in over a year now. MOTU has had deprecated products from the UVI split, Nomad Factory are busy trying to decipher the code after the chief developer died, FXpansion up and died etc. etc. etc.
NI are near done with their VST3 and Apple Silicon ports. Audio Ease, VSL, Sononym, AudioFinder etc. haven't even started from the looks of it. PSP and U-He are at the same level, a little over halfway yet we don't see threads on their stagnation. PSP are actually way behind NI in terms of porting.
Although Absynth is a huge loss, it's been almost a decade since NI abandoned Kore. Same with the hardware. I'm not saying they're beyond trashing a bit here for their scorched earth policies, but they at least have slowed down a bit.

Disclaimer, I just picked up a Komplete Control S88 MKII for less than half the price of new, and although there are huge glitches in the matrix with Apple Silicon Macs and NI's jump on VST3 only for AS Macs, it's absolutely fantastic. A huge step up from the Akai MPK88. They continue to support Komplete Control, and I can forgive the Absynth and Kore fiascos.

Even worse IMO is all the sales they're missing with no native VST3 and MAS plug ins on Apple Silicon, with only AU in Rosetta for the last couple years. It's like they just want to lose money.noiseboyuk wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:35 pmYeah that it ridiculous - apparently they’re working on it (!). Fair enough. Like many I'm disapponted Absynth didn't get an upgrade...but then again Massive did with "Massive X" and a lot of people seem to prefer the old one so maybe they said to hell with it lolnoiseboyuk wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:33 pm Maybe I’ve been lucky in the 15 years I’ve had NI products. But if the old versions of the two is all I have, it's cool, I still esp like Absynth and would prefer that over many other hyped synths these days. I even still have Kompakt and use it.

Not a very good comparison, NI has way more resources than U-he and PSP.machinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:17 am

PSP and u-he aren't deleting products from their catalogs, shrinking development teams and budgets, scaling back roadmaps and project scopes, or selling their assets to venture capitalists, either.
