I agree (and Modwave is one of the best sounding VSTs in my opinion as well) and for $50 is is a bargain. Sure, you can do the 'I can achieve the same with X,Y.Z synths' argument, but the reality is you cam probably do just about anything with 2-3 VST's but many of us have more than that! It sounds great, it looks great, it has some interesting features and really nice workflow ( I really enjoyed making new sounds on this, that's a big plus for me)
Yep! :tu:
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Really? What else did you look at? I think it is really quite expensive for what it is. Hydrasynth Explorer, for example, looks like a way better synth for just a few bucks more and then there is Modal's Cobalt 5S which, as I mentioned earlier...
Besides being a misanthrope you are also a shill I see. No one is talking about your precious 'Modal' but you keep bringing it up. This thread is about opinions re Minifreak but I guess you forget this when this mist of rage covers your eyes. Everything you say is negative. It's also full of broad statements like implying that people who dislike this synth are in the majority. I haven't seen much negative apart from your own bleating. I've seen posts you make like this several times now and always your default position is an aggressive and negative one. I don't know what your problem is but you don't do yourself any favors by constantly moaning instead of having a civil discussion on the topic had hand.
The Hydrasynth comparison isn't completely irrelevant to the discussion. The MiniFreak would have been a more serious contender for me personally, if Arturia hadn't dropped the CV outs from the Micro. It was the first thing I checked and sadly my initial excitement upon its release was very quickly squashed. In the end I decided on the Explorer for myself, because like the MF it's a nice digital HW synth, but it also doubles as a decent CV controller for my Eurorack case and is/was thus the better option for me, all things considered.

Shame really because having the plugin to use on my laptop, for living room/vacation sessions, would have been really useful.

That's a bummer. It's showing 69e for me and I only have 3 Delays and 9 FX and couple of freebie licenses...

It's a shame that he doesn't reciprocate and is often the one to go straight for ad hominems, for simply having a different opinion.

Well I spent another 1.5 demo sessions with it tonight, tweaking it from the INIT patch, and I am perhaps more underwhelmed than I was yesterday. There is literally nothing about it I find impressive. The different oscillator algorithms did nothing for me. The obvious point of comparison for me is TRK-01, which straight out of the box feels like it has more to offer from its five "engines" (except polyphony, of course) and it's free. Side-by-side, it blows MiniFreak's sound out of the water.

The output on MiniFreak is also extremely quiet, which probably does it no favours. I also thought the distortion effect was ridiculously tame, no matter how much I tried to drive it, to the point of being useless. The chorus is nice, though.

Again, the overall impression was of a bad 90s ROMpler. The bottom end is almost non-existent in most of the patches, although some can be coaxed out of it if you try hard enough. I just can't work out why you'd bother when there are so many better, cheaper options out there to work with.

So after 2.5 demo sessions, I'd wasted enough time and uninstalled it. I noticed that I currently have none of the 9 Arutira products I own installed, which is a bit sad, I suppose, although I never paid anywhere near full price for any of them. We never used any of them in any of our songs so it's not like I need them.

As. everybody should know, Kvr is the hotel california. you get in, but not out (litterally).
And if we do not critizise the hard way, but fair to the man, we would just do PR.
BTW: Has anyone tried the audio in on the minifreak vst?

Why would TRK-01 be your reference to judge the Minifreak? TRK-01 is a mono synth built for bass and kicks. Of course a polysynth like the Minifreak is not as loud when comparing a single note.

This synth is GOOD.

Anyone not liking some presets check out the ones by Matt Pike - one of the best sound designers for Arturia (for Pigments too) - he made some sublime patches

If anyone on kvr annoys you with their posts, just listen to their music and it usually helps clear things up imo
