But Massive sounds more fresh; I never really liked how dated Massive sounded though so I replaced it with Massive.

that's a pretty broad statement.

for me, many things are 'dated' (massive, wobble basses, picture-tube tvs...). but whatever works for someone... works, and if you can get a sound you like from massive etc... all good

Not into massive anymore but massive x sounds more modern than the original.
Look at sylenth for example which still sounds fresh ,

Some of the sounds created for Massive still stand out for me as some of the best synth sound design I've come across. Thinking of patches by Jeremy Jantzen, The Unfinished, Leap into the Void, and biomechanoid for example (ie not the dubstep ones)

even the dubstep sounds, many of them are great. the problem like many famous synth sounds is they become over used.
not all of them of course, but some of them have some great design tricks going on to get huge sounds. while dubstep was never something i enjoyed much, the sound designers had some chops too.

i dunno, even when i owned it, i kinda felt that massive sounded like a fat rubber ball pushed thru a plastic sheet (which, i guess, could be either a good thing or a bad thing)....

It doesn’t sound as dated as Hive 2. Or Hive 2 come to that. If I use 2 instances of Hive 2 and 1 instance of Massive, do I get a Massive Hive 4?

sound is quite subjective... but what IS dated is the GUI.

Does Massive sound dated?
