Carbon, the stuff that Dreams are made of.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

I believe its just another Shakespeare Quote.

Yes, obviously, my response was also cryptic. Seek clues in the interior of the Carbon series of Reaktor ensembles.D-Fusion wrote: Fri Jan 20, 2023 7:55 pmI guess the Carbon Comment where kind of a cryptic Dad joke and not about the Plugin.

OG Massive to me has a certain type of buzziness to it. Good developers can work around this but that just seems to be something that it tends toward.
The other thing about OG Massive regards 3rd party presets. It seems like there are a lot of amateurishly crappy presets out there as if either nobody can program the synth or the developers think that Massive users only want a bunch of plinky or buzzy sounds. Not that there aren't good developers doing good things, but I have run into far more chaff.
I probably wouldn't call it dated because I didn't like the sounds it was making when it was new and before it had influenced all these genres that I probably don't care about anyway.

Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Well, for a sound to be "dated" I feel a few things have to happen. First the sound has to be wildly successful. It has to become fairly ubiquitous and be prominent in some pop hits.jancivil wrote: Fri Jan 20, 2023 6:22 am how the af does a sound “date”? Is it a fashion item, a fad, to become passe once a received perception of novelty fades? Even actual physical instruments that were long ago superseded, ie., period instruments, can be used uniquely or techniques arrived at since their day employed.
No, if yez believes that’s a thing, tell us what it entails. I used Massive extensively in one piece, 2017. I bet there’s someone that’ll say it was already old hat by then.
It sounds fantastic, it haz teh analog warmth and evvythang. wait, was that a fad too?
it reminds me of trading baseball cards when I was like 8. I had Gaylord Perry, a legend, and this card out of a pack of Topps was a lucky draw. I thought it was worth (I’m sure it was actually).
“Aw, that old heel?”
It also has to have a pretty unique and identifiable character.
It needs to be superseded in some way. For instance, Massive X added analog modeling including gain and FM to the filters, so it's an advance. I might be able to get similar results up to the point where I start messing around with those features, then X leaves Massive in the dust. People then start using those features and they become popular.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm of the mind that Massive doesn't particularly sound dated to me, unless you program dated sounds that a million people used in their songs. To me its just been replaced by things that have some extra features and some things that sound a bit better. Like feedback, for instance. I think the bulk of the people calling it "dated" are preset jockeys, and in that case, Massive's presets are... well one of the first ones is literally called 1991.
