I have an old MAudio Interface (Fast Track C400) and when I try plugging it in on my PC or other ppls PCs, it gives an error that it cant be recognized. What probably happened to the hardware? Maybe the USB somehow "burned" and can't power up the unity properly?

I think it's just not class-compliant. Or in plain English: it merely needs the driver to be installed. Insert the CD-ROM that came with it, click click, next next, finish.

If there are any lights on it that actually light up when you plug the USB cable in, the USB connection is probably fine (assuming it doesn't have a dedicated power cable).

As @BertKoor suggests, just install the drivers for whichever version of whichever operating system you're using. M-Audio stopped developing drivers for several of the interfaces a few years ago, but you should be able to get the latest one from their site.

Since MAudio were in Avid domain for some years might look there too for drivers.
