Open Pro-Q 2 projects with Pro-Q 3...? (or Pro-L projects with Pro-L 2)

Is there way to force Fabfilter Pro-Q 3.x or Pro-L 2 to open projects that have Pro-Q 2.x or Pro-L 1...?
I have a lot of old projects that I would like to improve but they have been made with old plugin versions. I would want to avoid installing old versions to keep everything simple.
2. Same question for other Fabfilter plugs
3. Same question for other plugs.
I am on Ableton Live 11 (Win10) and still using VST2 plugins (perhaps next year finally to migrate to VST3 versions).

Probably not - this is the problem, which holds me back to use Fabfilter plug ins so often. I had this problem after upgrading from Q1 to Q2 and now with Q3 I hesitate to use it. I often go back to projects many years old.

Since later versions support opening presets from older versions, the best way I know of is to save the older instance presets, replace the older version with the later version and open the older version preset. PITA. But at least they have good support of previous version presets and include the previous version preset folder in the later versions' preset list!

Maybe download Pro-Q2 from FabFilter and run in Trial Mode?

A fix for this "issue" would be very welcome. For that reason (but not only) i try to reach Melda plugins first, cause you can use and open an updated plugin with no issue at all.
Unfortunatly for certain duty i like pro-q3 workflow more and i use it, same is for saturn 2

If you own, say Pro-Q3, you can get NFR licenses for Q2 and Q right from within your FabFilter-account. Just install Q2, L1 whatever and hide it in your plugin manager, so it only gets pulled up by an old project, that's how I handle it.golemus wrote: Sat Jan 21, 2023 1:11 am Is there way to force Fabfilter Pro-Q 3.x or Pro-L 2 to open projects that have Pro-Q 2.x or Pro-L 1...?

I dont think that's what the OP wants to achieve. The way I read it, the OP wants a project that uses Q1/2 to open with Q3 but with the settings of the original Q1/2, automatically. Can't be done right now automatically. As I said, the only way I can think is to save the settings of each Q1/2 instances and then replace with Q3 and open the appropriate saved Q1/2 preset.Proteinshake wrote: Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:10 amIf you own, say Pro-Q3, you can get NFR licenses for Q2 and Q right from within your FabFilter-account. As noticed, FabFilter considers each new major version a new product Q1 vs Q2 vs Q3. Unlike the way Melda does it, which is in a way easier and preferable as a way to make the product roadmap more streamlined.

As PLexuss said, the new versions will open presets from the older versions, so your best bet is to install the older versions, make presets and transfer them over to (open them in) the latest versions, and re-save those old projects. Then you can uninstall the older plugin versions again.
But honestly Fabfilter plugins installed are only a few megabytes each, so why not just let them hang.

I appreciate you asking this question. I had some old Q2 projects that I, by hand, recreated the settings in order to move to Q3. I didn't know the Q2 presets opened in Q3. That will save me a bit of hassle in the future migrating other projects.
