A question: I have Wotja for Mac. Is the windows version a separate product, i.e. do I have to get a separate windows license?

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, that is right. We have no way to share customer purchase info across all the different app stores - they're completely separate "silos" from the perspective of an app developer. Just the way it is, I'm sorry to say!

Hope you could find someone from the youtube community to make a "how to make your first ambient song with wotja 23 in 10 steps and 10 minutes".......

Lately a step sequencer that on first view looks as puzzling for me as Wotja (of course Wotja is much more complex then a step sequencer but thats not the matter) simply sold to me via two different guys making ambient songs in short videos with it (a step sequencer.....) and after it I simply knew its for me and what I could do with it. 20 minutes (2x10).

For Wotja 23 I was looking in the usual places, whats new, tutorials (all for w 22.....).....as complex as ever, getting lost somewhere.....the w23 play me, yes, shows something....

But I wanted to create some simple new randomn mixes, albums based on the W 23 new stuff, the start with it is as complicated as ever.

And as its the time of the year: "Yes, same (complicated) procedure as evry year (with evry new version).....

You dont have to sell it to me, I will buy any new version anyway (and have bought this already), and I will sigh and find a way to at least make something out of it.....but this could be so much more and easiser I am sure. I dont need the details, just the "getting into" like with the sequencer I mentioned....

Again there has been so much going on in the engine/under the hood and so little to be seen (and been shown !!!) on the surface.

One 2 minute video one time a year for evry new version on your channel ? Sorry, that is not enough and the really improved help and evrything over the years just dont grabs if you dont get the start, not get into it.

Yes, we have a never ending job of making it easier to "get into" Wotja. We just keep plugging-away as best we can. I know that Flows/Schemas make it easy to "play", and automatic mixes and albums also make it easy to create content; but the steps to go from there, to getting really to grips is certainly harder than we'd like.

Tutorials take a great deal of time and effort to create, and Tim certainly puts in the hours on both Tutorials and documentation! We'd hoped to be able to do some more by the year end, but we lost a couple of weeks when we were caught out by an app store review that required us to completely rework the way we supported "Pro Buyout". I actually worked Christmas Day through a virus!

Anyhow, your feedback is very useful and we'll both keep working towards making Wotja easier to get to grips with.

I've had one single crash so far that I could not reproduce but usability seems much improved and it has a much smoother look too, congratulations on this release! I'm finally diving into the generators, not sure I know what I'm doing.

Thats what I wanted to point out: with the video from the develloper (in case of the sequencer I mentioned) I would never have bought it.

Two independent youtubers both making (gladly for me) great (and not too long in time, my capacity is really limited to < 10 minute ) AMBIENT songs with it (which I never expected from the develloper demo, I mean for what you usuall use a sequencer/arp: modern and as fast as you can get ) simply did two things: explaining whats important (at least for me) and convinced me that this is a useful and USABLE thing for me.

Another comparable (and as complex) complete composing tool here on kvr simply LIVES on the tutorials and patches and tips and whatever on mainly 1 or 2 guys.

I have no solution really but maybe worth a look for some interested guys, throw out some licenses (to be clear: not for me, I am out of this kind of game, I am simply searching for an easier way of better understanding), get some "how to get this or that with W23".

Of course its much more complicated then a seaquencer, vst whatever thing but maybe just woth thinking about new ideas of "spread the word"

Just download the app, it's all there. Much easier to figure out if you like it than reading a list on the internet. I paid $35 with the early bird discount, but I think it varies depending on your country's purchasing power too.

Sorry if it isn't clear - we try hard, but there are only the two of us working on Wotja!

In general, we let you try most things for free, with a play time limit (so you occasionally have to restart). Some things, mainly in the area of save / export / import, are only opened-up for 'Pro' users. But you can have a lot of fun playing with the Free version until such time as you want to get more serious and get the 'Pro' unlock.

Wotja includes its own modular synth / FX, which I created 15 or so years ago for a mobile operating system when I created a new audio SDK for mobile devices. That is still at the heart of Wotja, but you don't have to use it; you can use Wotja purely for MIDI composition and use external VST3/AUv3 if that is your own way of working.

The advantage of using Wotja's internal engine, is that your compositions sound the same on any device that Wotja runs on (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android). So you can create on iOS while on the move or in the bath, and pick-up later on your desktop, and maybe share with a friend who can then play with the same mix on Android.

supercollider etc. are brilliant at what they do - Wotja's engine is a very capable cross-platform modular synth/FX system, with a long development history, but as only 1 developer does *everything* (me!) it will never be at the same level of those other tools. But that said: it does a lot!

Yeah, I understand what you mean, and your advice is very heart-felt for which I thank you.

Wotja really has only ever grown organically - we've never been able to afford to pay for 3rd party videos / tutorials / coverage, and have relied on word-of-mouth to slowly grow the business.

We are lucky enough over 30+ years to have built-up a passionate user base, who seem to keep coming back to our tools and of course mentioning what we do to friends and colleagues, slowly growing things. Which is nice and is sufficient for us to keep us on improving and extending Wotja.

I guess that Wotja's destiny is as a "stealth" product - with a small number of very passionate users who love what Wotja lets them achieve. That is cool in and of itself!

Of course, it'd be nice if lots and lots of people knew about it, as I think that lots of people would love to use it; be that only as a player to relax with, or a very deep creative tool with our core generative composition engine and accompanying audio toolbox.

We'll just have to see what happens!

Yeah. It can be hard to explain in words what Wotja does - it does a *lot*! - and videos can only scratch the surface. Playing with it is really the key, guided by some of our simple tutorials to get you started.

NEW: W23 'Pro' (Mobile) Unlock IAP option in the Wotja In-App Store for those wishing to use Wotja 23 on iOS/iPadOS ONLY.
FIXED (macOS/iOS): 'Listening' generators now work again in the AU3 Plug-in.
FIXED (Windows): 'Listening' generators now work again in the VST3 Plug-in.
FIXED (macOS): When the AU3 Plug-in window was open and a new document was created (e.g. Mix), it could look like the AU3 Plug-in has hung; it hadn't, but the alert asking for a document name was behind the AU3 Plug-in window.
FIXED: If an underlying Template used by a Cell had gone missing that Cell was blank, even if there was custom data in that Cell.
FIXED (macOS): Sped-up the macOS TTS speech rate (macOS 13+ required) to match that in iOS.
FIXED: Display of file sizes in Mix Record tab.
FIXED: Rare crash using RHS menu button in Documents list.
