Every time I read that the VSR6000 still isn’t out yet I chuckle a bit. Have had it for months now. Not sure what Relab is waiting for at this point.

Savant Audio has released one instead of them.

Yes, they have released a Quantec emulation, but not of the same hardware. Relab's will be slavish to the original 80s version - Savant's is the much cleaner, polished 90s version, which is a different unit... (even the 80s algorithm in it is not the same as how the 80s version sounds, due to hardware and modelling differences.)

Martin Lind has mentioned interest in modeling both of those “synths” . The AMS in particular goes way back to before the TC reverb or Sonsig. I believe some AMS-type algorithms made it into Sonsig.

I think Martin also considered the Bricasti M7 for a time. But I know it will be several lifetimes waiting for that one.

I wouldn't hold out any hope for things he 'mentioned interest in', given the rate of completion, but you seem to already know that

I don't think Sonsig is meant to emulate either of them. I think it's more that he was inspired by the Lexicon modulated reverbs, and developed a bunch of modulated algorithms that do similar things, but with his own take (for example, the modulations go way beyond the effect of the 224, they have multiple choruses going on etc.)

And the Quantec, ironically, is known and loved *precisely* because it *doesn't* modulate/chorus it's reverb tails. The entire point of the algorithm is to provide natural tails without having to rely on modulation.

So in the case of Sonsig, the output modes are more to indicate a reverb age/character - Sonsig being the most modern and hi-fi, the 224 mode being softer and rolled off to about the frequency response of that device, and the QRS mode being even more lo-res.

RENDER MODE (QRS, 224, Rev-A)
These three render modes apply different processing accuracy and filtering, changing the reverb’s overall character.

- The QRS mode has a low-fi, desirable character with a steep high frequency cutoff.
- The 224 mode has a characteristic spaciousness and texture, and a relatively mild high frequency cutoff.
- The Rev-A mode has pristine sound, with no processes influencing the reverb’s spaciousness or frequency response.
