Excuse my ignorace, but I am not that familiar with how SoundFonts are put together. Is there a way to make huge banks more RAM-friendly by pulling out single presets?

Post

CDXtract can do it.

I use a program like Awave Studio for that. But it's not for free, was about 149 Euro I think (a program that converts for example soundfonts into many other file-types). I think you'll get other answers soon :). There is another program called Alive, but I don't know that. With Awave it's easy to cut instruments out of an sf2-file.

I don't need to convert the SoundFont to another type of file, I simply want to pull one preset out and make that a new SoundFont. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

 I wrote about Awave and converting files, wa my mistake. You might try the demo of Awave Studio if CDXtract isn't better or cheaper. It's rather easy with it to do what you want. You simply load the soundfont, take the parts you want to have, cut the rest and save as soundfont.
Cheers.

If you have a SoundBlaster card Vienna 2.3 will do what you want and it's free. It will also strip samples from Soundfonts. :D

Keep the sf2 like it is,
download the free "sfz", set it to DFD mode and play.:)

The sf2 will be streamed from HD, no ram limits anymore. ;)

Ok, here's a way you extract a single bank in Vienna:

Go: File> Bank Manager> Import Bank, then select the SF2 you want to extract a single bank from.
Then, drop down the Melodic Pool folder, and select the preset you want to extract, and drag it into the Melodic Pool folder of the new soundfound you want to create. Piece of piss! :D
