Apparently you can get a legit download from https://samples-now.com/WAV/WAVFileStore/

I've seen a list of the samples - does anyone know if for the musical instruments if they are multisamples? Are they looped?

I'm thinking of getting in the new year, any comments?

Interesting! I'll be watching to see what people say. :)
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

I get the feeling you may be waiting some time.

I've been watching some interviews with JJ. I suspect they won't be looped..he says in one interview that he hated doing looping and it always sounded bad.

Another thing he said was that he thought the raw sounds coming out of the CMI weren't very good, they needed treatment to sound ok.

I suppose another question I have, not that I'm too bothered about the answer, is if the samples have been recorded from a Fairlight (like UVI presumably did) or whether they some kind of digital export (which I assume the samples in the Arturia CMI are).

I just purchased this collection last week. I’ve been importing loops and sounds to Garage Band and the Abu Dhabi sample slicer in Korg Gadget. Loop lengths are entirely editable. Thrilling for me to hear the classic, otherwise unachievable sounds coming out of my monitors!

This one is interesting, definetly saving this page for later, can't go wrong with more samples.

I got one of the classic collections. The guy who worked with the Pet Shop Boys. Pet Gleadall. Real name Pete. There's a little note at the end of the printout that says you need to contact the seller to ensure copyright clearance if you want to use the samples commercially. Some of these old libraries seem to have ''borrowed'' sounds from other peoples records etc.

I'd heard of that kind of thing in old libraries - there is one from the same site, "Sampleography by Pete Gleadall" No mention of any restriction on usage but it does say things like "slips into the mix" that suggests it was meant for commercial recordings. Maybe the licencing changed?

The law caught up with the sampling end of things at some point. It was kind of a free for all before then.

Sampleography by Pete Gleadall (notes)
Every effort has been taken to ensure the samples on this CD are safe to use freely in your music. If you find any sample you believe to be subject to copyright please notify AMG. Before using any sample on a commercial project please contact AMG to ensure no copyrights have been reported on the samples you wish to use.
So everything is cool but if you discover otherwise then let AMG know. If you want to use the samples let AMG know in case someone else has discovered a copyright infringement.

that's very interesting. There's nothing to that effect for Art of Sampling.

I do wonder though, I guess it might have been gray area if Pete had been doing work for hire and everything he produced was owned by the record company.

You'd also think a company like AMG would have their shit together on copyright, weren't they a library music company?

I don't know what's going on there. I remember I purchased Blanc Records (Keith Le Blanc) collection directly from Keith himself (28-Oct-2012) [Vol 1-9] $19. He didn't want people to buy his stuff from AMG for some reason. Not sure if it's the same as the AMG collection. This one is more than a few GB worth. AMG were offering Keith LeBlanc's superb Kickin' Lunatic Beats Vol 1 for free 26-05-2018. I have email records for both of those.

Anyway, I've written to Matt @ AMG to see if the Sampleography by Pete Gleadall is copyright free or not.

ok, it will be interesting to hear what he says.

Maybe Keith was getting more money through direct sales?

If we can find the thread, that will be revealing. I'm pretty sure he posted at KVR.

I'm not too good at searching.

However, I just googled and on what looks like the official KLB website he states that ''This is the ONLY legal place to download the works of Keith LeBlanc.''.

Interesting to note that 'Kickin Lunatic Beats Vol 1' is available there.

sounds like there is some kind of dispute between him and AMG.

I saw a recent interview with JJ and he seemed surprised about the Art of Sampling being priced at $40 and mumbled something and then changed the subject..

It does sound like a dispute.

I got a reply from Matt. Apparently sample copyright is complicated. I don't feel comfortable about copying and pasting his reply. If you want to know how complicated, I'd suggest writing to him yourself. :help:
