Yes, gates will gate cut noise. If you're needing to use a gate, it's the instrument/FX source that's got an issue, not the mixer. There shouldn't be that many instruments or FX that need gating nowadays. Guitars, yes - vocals maybe. I think you're obsessing about noise TBH - done properly and noise is not a big issue.

Having extraneous noises can become very annoying.

I will pay attention to my settings, gain.

The analog option really tempts me, on the other hand even if a little gas factory the Presonus is completely configurable and autonomous.

I would like your opinion on these two machines.

There is a third Mackie VLZ 4 2404, but had a Mackie and the spurious background noise was unbearable and really problematic.

One of my fears with an analog mixer is audible noise.

I use Mackie 402 VLZ4 for all work outside the box. Practising on whatever instrument and making synth sounds. Those Onyx preamps are really nice and phones out are powerful.

My tests show about -75 dB noise level or so full gain. Nothing to worry about. And those preamps do 60 dB gain. Cross Channel leakage I tested went from -95 dB out from computer and were 88 dB after using Room Analyzer.

Really good stuff.

But adding max noise on 24 channels matters, but that is never a real situation having to use 60 dB gain everywhere on every channel.

A Shure SM7B needs 60 dB, anything else a fraction of that.
