You can use soundfonts on mac.
Download SoundfontSynth AU for Mac here!
Load any soundfont into the soundfont synth in your host. Send it some midi notes and enjoy.

No problem. There is Bismark and SoundFontSynth. Both pretty cheap. Just save the file and load it in either of them.Krakatau wrote:Thank for the advice, but the thing is ( aouch !!!) i'm Mac based !

Also, almost any softsampler out there will happily load/convert soundfonts. Sometimes the results might sound lousy (in case it's supposed to be a synth patch with some SF2-only options used) but for natural samples usually only some minor tweaks are required to make it sound all well.TennesseeVic wrote: No problem. a soundfont is a sound bank containing samples(wav)Krakatau wrote:Thank for the advice, but the thing is ( aouch !!!) i'm Mac based !
It started on the cheap creative labs' sound-cards on the pc as a beginners tools for playing back midi track using a pallette of non-synth sound(at the time they all sucked...most sounfont still suck because they are compressed..16bit anyone?)
The samples in those days were loaded into some hardware ram on the sound-card itself, thus crappily acting like a sampler(yeah right!)
DO you Have a Vst or Au sampler at all?..All soft samplers support the shitty soundfonts
No soundfonts on the Mac? How can you ever make music then?
btw. I hope you have a small Mac. I heard big Macs can be quite fattening.

only fitting that the pc side of things they stuck to this amateurish format.
presets for people who can't (or won't) learn true decent samplers....even with all the very nice software VSTies that makes it such a breeze.
Fine if you like uneditable preset playing
P.C. ...hummm ... Preset Composers

In case you AREN'T, you should better get a freaking clue!
SF2 is a format understood and used by MANY samplers for good reasons - because it IS some sort of standard.
Also, whenever you buy a sample library these days, you often won't be able to tweak it either, because it's coming with the samples in some large data file rather than in individual samples - and those aren't even convertable.
But uhm.... ok, yes, I assume you're correct, people using Stylus RMX and QL string libraries are "Preset Composers".

Just doesn't work for me, neither on 98/IE or XP/Firefox. Using GetRight doesn't help either.emerald tablet wrote: i wouldn`t mind

FWIW, www.tedjordan.com doesn't work either.

Free soundfont player for mac :Krakatau wrote:Thank for the advice, but the thing is ( aouch !!!) i'm Mac based !
FluidsynthZERO from jk : http://www.sonoria.pl/jk/pluggox.html
First of all you need to install the (also free) app Pluggo 3.1.2 runtime installer for Mac OS X (updated 12 February 2004) from here :
http://www.cycling74.com/products/dlpluggo.html
This will create (amongst other things) a folder called "Pluggo" in your VST folder (Library - audio - plugins).
Download FluidsynthZERO , put it in the "Pluggo" folder, and you're all happening.

Nice violin Sound. The second layer is a good option, but maybe it can be like a second preset instrument. A second louder layer without the appogiatura thing can made even better your soundfont.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I believe that Halion, Kontakt and Kompakt all play soundfonts. Not sure about EXS. I know there's a free one for the Mac as well (probably in one of the other posts here).Krakatau wrote:Thank for the advice, but the thing is ( aouch !!!) i'm Mac based !

Marce...THanks guy...now that i"m playing with fonts..it could be a good idea. Since I perform on the violin..having that second layer comes in handy...if you listen to the demo...you can see where I put in the
second layer notes..to embelish the melody.
Hey..It's Christmas...
Give my mandolin a try...
