All VST3 plug-ins are added as 'multi-timbral' that is multiple tracks can use the same plug-in instance, on different MIDI channels. The only difference is that non-multi-timbral instruments are not offered in the instrument menu as 'Instance of...'.

In v5 this per-plug-in setting will be removed entirely.

Thanks,
Attila

Hi. I'm confused by this. Perhaps you could clarify.

First, wrt. the way it is right now, if I AM using a single instance of a plugin, how/where do I set the different tracks that are sending notes to it to different MIDI channels so that the single (multi-timbral) plugin sounds each track differently as intended?

Second, wrt. the future, how/why can this setting go away? Is there not undeniably two different use-cases? 1. multiple tracks sending to a single (multi-timbral) plugin instance 2. different tracks, different plugin instances (whether the same plugin or not).

FWIW, most of the time, even when a plugin is nominally multi-timbral (e.g. M1 or Triton) I still would want to load multiple instances in order to very conveniently address the Program mode in each case, with the instances set to different programs.

I'm very early here on using plugins with RC, so sorry if my questions seem basic. And BTW, I do think this is a fantastic new ability with VST3s, so thanks very much for going here!

I might be wrong, but in the Track Inspector, don't you just choose/select the same instrument for the new track, and simply assign a different/desired MIDI Channel, according to the slot for the sound you want those notes to play.?

Hope I'm right, I think its how I've done it previously.

You are right, it indeed does not work... A fix will be available shortly.
Thanks for the video!

Right-click selection was added today:

Here is a video showing the small lightnings in the Idea Tool failing to generate.

I've attached my file, in case that helps.

BTW, these problems persist in 4.6b6.

Yes, you are right, but I think something went wrong recently, maybe with the new instrument menu, but it does not work as it used to work.

The "multi-timbral plug-in" mess is being cleaned up now. All plug-ins will be handled the same way. If you select a plug-in from the "Loaded plug-ins" section, e.g. "Instance of Kontakt 7" it will use the existing loaded plug-in instance, otherwise choosing from the menu will load a new instance. I am so sorry for this mess.

Thanks,
Attila

RapidComposer v4.6b7 is available!

Improvements:
  • Instrument plug-in handling simplified: the 'multi-timbral plug-in' setting was removed, all plug-ins are handled equally. If you select a plug-in from the "Loaded plug-ins" section, it will use the existing loaded plug-in instance, otherwise choosing from the menu will load a new instance.
  • Right-click on the structure bar will select the timeline and master track for the line, Shift-right-click will do the same for the part
  • Fixed: small 'lightning' buttons did not work for "replace selection" in the Idea Tool

hey, if possible, put an "X" in the search edit box to clear the text box entry (usually it's on the very far right of the text box). You see that behavior everywhere these days.. ;)

RapidComposer v4.6b7 is not opening. I just installed on my XPS8900 Desktop and it starts to initialize and then a white window opens for a second and then disappears.
I reinstalled on my laptop and it goes through the initialization dialogs but does not even open.
v4.6b6 works but the latest b7 will not open on either of my systems.

Oh, RC is getting really slick and fast for selecting and regenerating sections. I love it!

One thing I notice: if RC is playing and I right-click (or shift-right-click) to select the timeline to span a given Line or Part this new loop area, though it can actually be seen via right-click on the loop icon, does not come into effect during the current playback.

IOW, if I want to move the loop area to the next Line or Part rightward and have current playback continue thru that selection and subsequently start looping it, I cannot do so.

In short, it would be great to have selection of a new looping area to have immediate effect w/o having to stop and restart playback.

Hi.

Regarding the Tonnetz -

When I click in a triangle area, the symbol that I clicked on appears as a chord in the Master Track, as expected.

However, when I click on a circle, the chord that appears in the MT does not match the symbol in the circle.

Is this as it is supposed to be?

If so, how should I think to relate the symbol in the circle to what I'm actually going to get when I click on it?

Hi.

I suggest adding 'Select Full Timeline' (with a keyboard shortcut) to the Timeline Menu Panel.

RC - Timeline Menu 01.jpg

Alternatively, or in addition, a double-right-click on the timeline itself, or on it's lefthand title area would also be a very quick way to accomplish this.

Q: Is there a way to delete all the phrases from all the tracks at once?

If not, I would find that to be a helpful addition. Thanks.

Post

Hi. I would find it helpful to have an action to 'Remove Unselected Phrases'. Thanks!

Chord Imports from Music XML - a trick I'd love to see in RC's bag:

https://www.screencast.com/t/dCLGY6WaCY (10 seconds)

I have over 1350 songs for which I can output the chords as Music XML.

It would be a tremendous boon to have near-instant access to these chord progressions.

Yes, of course, I added a clear box now
Thanks!
