I'm not sure what combination of past purchases is responsible, but I see crossgrade offer for V Collection 9 for $189 (70% off) with a free MiniFreak V.

Haven't had any experience with Arturia's stuff before. When you buy a collection, does the version of each individual plugin (not the collection itself), require a fee to update, if it does get upgraded?

Everything is updated free.

Ah OK, thanks!

But, I thought with the Jupiter 8, they did a full revamp and the new version was not free for prior owners (?) Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes only maintenance updates are free, new versions you won't get until you pay for an update (either individual or of the full V collection).

The exception for the free version updates is Pigments (which I started with at V2, and all of the updates to v4 have been free), which is not a part of the V Collection. But it's a cool synth!

a very, very cool synth.

To reiterate what @jm.schloemer said.. Over the last couple of years, Arturia have been re-writing some of their instruments. The recent major update/rewrites - like the Jup-8 V4... are not considered maintenance releases, nor are they free. So.. while it was a 'version' update from Jup-8 V3 to Jup-8 V4... it was not free.. In the past, some of the major version updates were free.. but they were not big re-writes like the Jup-8.

If I may make a suggestion to the makers of Arturia VST synths & effects: For V10, I would like to see direct numeric input for numeric fields, llike the modulation matrix for the Prophet VS, etc. I think this might be helpful for those who like to experiment. Just a thought.

Your post might have a better chance of being seen by Arturia staff over in this forum. Just a suggestion...

I decided against getting the V Collection because there were too many I wouldn't have used. But I've already bought a couple of individual licenses and plan to get a couple more too.

I'm still confused about this though... I get the difference between maintenance and version updates, but how frequent is it that they get the version updates? Have all of them had them at one time or another, or only some? I was under the impression that version updates happened for all of them with the release of each new 'Collection'? (Just what I'd thought as I hadn't been paying any attention to Arturia stuff until recently... and regretting it now!) If so, are the new Collection releases always an annual thing?

The typical pattern for Arturia is that with each new V Collection some new synths are added and a few synths get new versions. In other words Arturia doesn't upgrade every synth for a new V Collection, but if you upgrade to the new V Collection you will get any newly included upgrades and additions.

For example I had the V Collection 8 which included CS-80 V3 and Piano V2. I didn't receive the upgrades to CS-80 V4 and Piano V3 until I upgraded to V Collection 9, although I could have optionally paid for those individual instrument upgrades instead of the entire collection.

Bottom line is that when an instrument's V # changes that is treated like a new instrument, and not a maintenance update...

Got it! Thanks zzz00m.

Just out of curiosity, is there a typical price for choosing to update individual instruments? Would be good to know in general because I'm pretty sure I won't upgrade to a Collection. But also because I've seen some older versions being sold, so maybe I could get a price down a bit more for when I get the individual ones I want.

There is nothing typical about Arturia's upgrade policy. It varies all the time. Just check your account to see if there are any upgrade offers.

All I know is that it is much cheaper to get the whole collection than to keep on buying individual instruments.
