It is for sure device shared with IRQ or something Bitwig uses to communicate with third party plugins.
Bitwig tech team just answered me it's a known bug and they are on it!
An idea how to check which IRQ is guilty?
Interesting. So does that mean that if you use BWS without any plugins, it works fine?
Please do update on the progress of that bug report.

There are number of ways to monitor IRQ activity: https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... -over-time

Ultimately these kind of problems for me were due to bad laptop BIOSes, new laptop, no problem at all.

I could workaround that by running plugins with the "in process" setting tho, so if you use stable plugins that could be an option.

You could also consider getting a laptop which is supported by Coreboot or Libreboot, so that troubleshooting, updating and otherwise managing a BIOS becomes considerably easier.

My laptop is Ubuntu Certified, and expensive... I don't think I will spend some more K€ for a new computer (actually I just can't...).
And for info: BIOS is up to date...

Bitwig is now already running with "in process" plugins option. On some session it stops completely xruns, in other not at all...

I watched IRQ activity following your link with:

Code: Select all

 watch -n0.1 --no-title cat /proc/interrupts
A lot of interrupts on USB, some on other channels, but nothing spacial on CPU peaks.

Have you tried Intel's LatencyTOP? Might be helpful

Hmm, if it's Ubuntu Certified then you might consider asking in the #ubuntu channel at Libera Chat, or the Ubuntu Studio channel if you're running that.

Hello Folks.
Sorry to resurect this post.

I just want to raise awareness to the fact that this still happens in bitwig 5.3.2 in xubuntu minimal with the ubuntu studio set up and the low-latency kernel.

Im running this on a "new" (bought second hand recently) thinkpad t490s.

as indicated before i was able to fix the issue by running the plugins "inside bitwig"

But i wonder if there is something else, that can be done about this now?

thank you.

Are you using a USB 2.0 audio interface by chance?

Were you able to test your USB-C interface yet?

The thing I found with my USB 2.0 interfaces--chiefly my RME UFX--was that over time, strange things began to happen with the audio stream(s), when before everything worked great ...
Long story short, I find out that modern Linux kernels/distros have gradually raised the usbhid polling rate for mouse, keyboard, etc. This in turn interferes with USB 2.0 (not => 3.0) audio interface streams.

The fix? See this post here from late last year: viewtopic.php?p=9014439#p9014439
