Recently acquired a Roland PK-5 in impeccable shape.
First and foremost I`m a guitarist and not really a keys/synth player.
I am primarily playing RUSH on guitar and want to get into triggering some sounds. (Being both Geddy and Alex played Taurus pedals)
What I`m trying to wrap my head around is which hardware synth should I be looking at?
I`m not really looking to create my own sounds (although I may in the future). But I need something that can play .wav`s and/or SVT`s. (Or convert one to the other if need be)
I`m not looking to run a laptop and an audio interface. PK-5 into a hardware synth then out to an amp or FOH.
I also don`t have a DAW. Looking to use whatever editor comes with synth hardware.
I found a good price on a MOOG Minitaur and a Roland SE-02 in my local Craigslist. (50-55% cost of new units) So, I`m kind of leaning towards one of those two. (If they`ll fit my needs)
I have done some reading/searching around the forums here and it seems the more I read, the more my brain shuts down. LOL!!!
Hit me with some constructive criticism.
What am I looking for/need?

The Minitaur and SE-02 are both analogue synths. Not sure what an SVT is, did you mean VST? VSTs dont run on synths, they're synths (and effects) that run inside a DAW/host on computers.
FWIW, the Minitaur is based on the Taurus, hence the similar name, and should hook up to the PK-5 footpedals you mentioned.
When you say you want to create your own sounds, what sort of sounds do you actually mean, though?

Yeah. That`s what I meant.

As far as creating my own sounds, I have no idea. I wouldn`t know until I got a synth and started messing around with it.
Told `ya I`m like a fish outta water here.
Here`s what I`m looking to do: go the 5:56 minute mark on this video.
You`ll see where Alex is triggering "Subdivisions" on his pedals.
Of course it`s RUSH so with all their electronics almost anything is on the table. LOL!
