Win10 \ Studio One4 if so.

Сonfirm.

I never noticed that before, but yes it happens here too (using Cakewalk). It works OK if you click Assign, then on the far-left side select an operator (not the Matrix display), then select something as a target for that operator on the next display.

I have a question on something that doesn’t seem to be covered in the manual: In the matrix, to the right of N and above S1, there is a field PM. If one clicks this, it becomes FM. Does anyone know what it does? Guessing from the labels PM/FM: Does it maybe switch between phase modulation and frequency modulation?

Modulate an operator with itself , if it turns into a saw and eventually collapses into noise, it's Phase mod.
If it turns into this kind of waveform

it's FM

Thanks. For the operators, switching between PM and FM does not seem to make any difference. Self-modulation goes from sine to an approximate saw, then to noise, thus it is PM.
Since it does not change the behavior of the modulation between operators, the PM/FM field seems to do something else. In the manual, this field is not yet part of the interface, thus it seems to be a new, so far undocumented addition to the synth.

I found the solution at https://marketplace.tracktion.com/release-notes?v=fem, 1.0.9. The PM/FM field switches between PM and FM if the noise (N) or sample 1 (S1) operator is the modulator.

Fixed in released v1.1.8.0

Post

In f.'em versions 1.1.8 and 1.1.9, the sampler S1 does not work properly on my system (MacOS 11.7.9). I tried Reaper and FL Studio. The S1 sampler plays strange sounds, different for any note, but never the correct sample sound (I can compare with v. 1.1.6 where it is fine).

Example:

- choose preset AnaFM Bass
- playing notes one hears already weird sounds
- if one switches off O7 and O8, then one clearly can hear that the sound played by S1 is not like Bass Ana Pro1 should sound.

As said, with version 1.1.6 it is fine, the problem occurs for 1.1.8 and 1.1.9.
Can other users confirm this?

Yes can confirm. It seems like for sample module was made some large chromatic shift to ten's octaves up by mistake. So can hear only aliasing artefacts. And resp if downs UI keyb octaves manually + down octave knob to -4 can hear properly tone.

v119 Win10 here

Thanks for confirming. Strange that such a severe bug passed the developer’s testing before releasing 1.1.8 and even passed unnoticed to release 1.1.9.

I work on making things for a platform where I think the QA testing process is nonexistent. Our team has lost weeks of work because of this. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Yep confirmed here too on v1.1.9 - Has it been reported ?
Love the wild sound this 'broken' preset makes when wildly gliding up and down the on-screen keyboard though (with O7 & O8 off), hope it's possible to recreate when it's fixed :)

For me usually seems interesting how sounds aliased high timbres too, that why i mostly against requests about total antialiasing (moreover for those notes range, which will not using in normal music anyway + we get additional CPU eating for nothing).
About question - a believe it will be possible in normal/fixed state too, with set pitch knob in sampler at max octave, and playing at most high notes.
About bug report - i did.

I reported the bug to Tracktion support a week ago. No response yet …
