Motorola DSP563xx Emulator (BETA) (Access Virus, Nord Lead, Waldorf MW...)

I am hoping that the development team can work something out with Access on this. I own a Virus C and sourced my own ROM and use the emulator. The Ti has a different but related dsp so they team was able to get this working fairly quickly. I've never owned a Ti. If Access would support this and somehow copy protect the Rom and monetize it, I'd pay a couple of hundred for it and I bet I wouldn't be alone.

You actually think the (at the time) head of Korg USA lied about the Z1's dev passing?! Honestly? That part, at least, is definitely true.EvilDragon wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 11:58 pmIn fact it ended up not being true. Z1/Prophecy DSP developer is still alive and well (and I think actually still even works for Korg). ISTR Dan Phillips mentioned this in one post at GS, can't find it now...
However there was more than one person involved. Dan would need to clarify, but the DSP dev he made reference to is likely Tomoaki Kanamori, who's played a prominent role with the design / code of many Korg products, including the Prophecy, MS2000 and Electribe etc. Thus (if so) it's not too unlikely he'd have been involved, somewhere along the line, in helping bring the desktop versions to us, including the Prophecy plugin..

Evil Dragon is right about the Korg developer

Probably the right desisioin...as it Access (and perhaps others) seem to be turning a blind eye to the use of their ROMS, probably as they are discontinued and unsupported. I don't want top get back to the pseudo-legal arguments that have been done to death, but I think the Devs have taken exactly the right approach in initially trying to cooperate with the ROM owners and then making sure they don't piss off the ROM owners!

Julius did a lot of the research at CCRMA but Korg's implementation is not a direct copy of that work, they had additional developments on top of tech they licensed from Stanford. Julius certainly did not do any actual DSP code for Korg.newluc wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 8:44 am Evil Dragon is right about the Korg developer

This. Right now the emulation only does synths that are not available for purchase. The Virus Ti is still being sold brand new, it would be a very shitty move to release an emulator (thats runs THEIR code) for an existing product, it wont be about "preservation" any more. They can preserve it in 20 years when its totally obsolete. The Virus C is emulated, everyone has a free virus now, there are so many other possibilities to emulate, Waldorf, Novation, Nord, etc.. Imagine if they release the Virus Ti and now they crossed a line, and some lawyers show up and it turns into a shit show and the entire project is shut down. They we got the Ti YAY, but thats all you are ever going to get, because there wont by any other synths emulated. Is that worth it?SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 9:36 am Probably the right desisioin...as it Access (and perhaps others) seem to be turning a blind eye to the use of their ROMS, probably as they are discontinued and unsupported. Have they considered Andromeda? I mean, is that even possible? I loved the sound of that synth.

Andromeda is not a digital synth that runs on a Motorola chip so probably no

HI
I ma having trouble with the latest M1 Mac builds - I seem to remember there was a script I needed to run. Anyone help me to find it?

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Get the Viper plugin. It can read the Ti banks, and uses way less CPU than this Motorola emulator.

The Alesis Andromeda is a 'true analog' (like the Korg MS20 mini or FS, Novation Bass Station 2, Korg Minilogue) with digital control. It is not a VA or Virtual Analog synth.
"An analog modeling synthesizer is a synthesizer that generates the sounds of traditional analog synthesizers using DSP components and software algorithms. Analog modeling synthesizers simulate the behavior of the original electronic circuitry in order to digitally replicate their tone."
Virtual analog synths include:
All Access Virus synths
Yamaha An1x / An200 / CS2x / Reface CS
Roland JP8000 / JP8080 / SH-01 Gaia / SH-201 / System 8 / System 1
Korg MS2000 / microkorg / Korg Prophecy / Korg Radius
Alesis ION
Nord Lead / Nord Modular
Novation Supernova / Supernova II / Nova / X-station / Ultranova / Mininova
Waldorf Q / Q+ / microQ / Blofeld

There was a whole team that worked on the DSP for the Prophecy. It's entirely possible that one of the people involved may have passed away.newluc wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 8:44 am Evil Dragon is right about the Korg developer

John Bowen posts over at Gearslutz, he was on the team that worked on the Korg Prohecy (designing the UI and presets), I'm sure he would know more because he was at Korg long before Dan Phillips even joined the company.
