ha! Just noticed this lol, there is no grid division or snap for a 1/2 note. Just wondering why it took me so long to notice that.. lol

Some minor bug fixes in this last beta version, and lots of chord progressions, categorized, contributed by Robin Bergsohn
Improvements:
- Dozens of chord progressions added with voicing, kindly contributed by Robin Bergsohn
- [macOS] "Disable retina screen detection" setting added which is useful when moving the RC window between retina and non-retina screens
- "Merge composition" menus fixed, and set up automatically when track names match
- The Idea Tool "big lightning" button is displayed even after regenerating a track in the Idea Tool
- Fixed a bug in the instrument menu (it displayed "Select" in some cases)
- Fixed: sometimes a slightly longer file was saved when saving the selection

I am not sure how that would work. MIDI Mutator destructively changes a MIDI sequence.sj1 wrote: Sun Feb 05, 2023 2:02 pm BTW, since the MIDI Mutator is mentioned above, can you comment on whether it would ever be plausible to make MM "live" similar to the way the IT is?
IOW, you could hear what you are doing with it in context with that section of the composition all sounding while you manipulate it.
For composition you have non-destructive variations. But it would be interesting to mix the two somehow.
Thanks,
Attila

I added "1/2" as snap and grid everywhere. This was not included in the beta version which was built before I read your post.
Thanks!

Thanks for RC v4.6b10 !
I notice that a manual drag selection of a timeline area will update the Master Track Menu -> Generate progression from x.x.x.
However, using the recently added right-click and shift-right-click on Line and Part capabilities does not perform the same update.
I think it makes sense that it should.
--
Also, when we have highlighted chords in the Master Track and we open the MT Menu, there is usually no agreement between the number of chords highlighted and the 'Number of Chords' (i.e. on the MT Menu slider) that are going to be generated by default when 'G' is pressed.
Obviously we do want to be able to move the slider and generate whatever number of chords is desired (and we can), but it would be good IMO if that number automatically defaulted to match the existing number of chords present. Otherwise (as of now), trying to change the chords while keeping the same number of them almost always requires a manual edit, and since this is a common operation (for me anyway) it amounts to alot of manual edits that could be avoided if the default number were automatically set to 'as-is'.
(Alternately, there could be a checkbox whose effect would be 'same as existing'.)

Here is a future wish:
Add a wizard that would analyze whatever chords are in the Master Track and generate a new Chord Rules Set (CRS). The user could then further edit the CRS to expand it out.
One contemplated use would be to type or drag in chords from any desired source (e.g. a known tune), generate a CRS, try out using that CRS and then add to it to expand it (either manually, or with another merged import) until it is working well. At that point you have a new, cool custom CRS derived from a specific genealogy. Rinse and repeat, growing your CRS library.
This would work especially quickly in combination with MusicXML chord import.

Here's another thought -
Separate the loop selection from the timeline selection.
A use case: Trying to build out, say, a 4 bar section. First two bars (chords) are exactly as desired. Want to loop and hear all 4 bars (loop selection) for context, while using any of the generation options that RC makes available to me (i.e. 'G', Idea Tool, manual editing, ...) on the last 2 bars (timeline selection).
As near as I can tell, this cannot be done right now. Please enlighten me if I am wrong about that.
Thanks!

re: Separate the loop selection from the timeline selection.
Visually I would suggest leaving the timeline selection as-is, while adding left-locator and right-locator loop markers to look like little flags.

Correct me if I'm wrong because this sounds similar to something that I've been looking for. Are you suggesting that when you import a chord progression from say a MIDI file it will analyse what those chords are and only give you variations of new chord progressions based on the imported ones, just like the option you get when using the VST scaler?sj1 wrote: Sun Feb 05, 2023 9:11 pm Here is a future wish:

Hopefully that is partly what you're suggesting as that would fall into the same concept of what I was asking for with midi mutator where whatever MIDI file you import, the wizard would analyses the parameters and note length and then generate brand new patterns only using those same parameters.

Hi lovemusic15!
The workflow I'm suggesting is that the CRS Wizard be able to analyze whatever chords are in the Master Track and create a CRS (or add to one) based on them.
That way, we could populate the Master Track with chords by all the current possible means, incl. MIDI file import, and any future means (e.g. MusicXML file import) and then proceed to generate CRSs from there.
CRSs then serve as the foundation for Master Track chord regeneration at will.
Having a CRS Wizard operate in tandem with MIDI file importing would also be a way to approach it.

Great suggestion,
Yeah I think we're on the same page having RC generate rules based on what you import, it pretty much the concepts of AI technology taking information that you import and then analysing it and then using that to generate new outputs based on the rules of the imported information.
I'm up for anything that gives us more control on the results we get rather then relying on random suggestions from generators.
