If I recall it correctly its an early 80s Roland drumcomputer (TR808?) and to me it sounds completely dry (except for the clap/whip at the end of every second measure, which is a synth or sample)

Here yall go.

I have that snare somewhere. It came with my MPC but I forgot the name. Maybe they used a MPC 60.

I don't think by any means that it's an 808. MPC might be a better guess.
In any case, there's some nasty reverb on the snare.

Might be some sample from a vinyl record too, there's some noise on those drums...

A clap? Are we even talking about the same tune?

So please share with us... how did you recreate the drums sound?

Post

It's in that Yamaha article. It was a particular kit, played by a real drummer :-o

Errrrr... trying my best to be a prick here, yeah - but what was actually recreated?
I can't spot anything.

Here's the original in comparison with the "recreation":

Where do you spot even the slightest similarities?
Time for some ear check, eh? There's nothing to share, other than "it's a drumbeat".

The recreation is a little slower. That's all! ;-)

The drum intro of Billy Jean must be one of the most well know. One first snare hit and you know that the song is comming.
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

Eh? It's a competely different sound. :o I'm not saying that it sounds bad, but it sounds nowt like the first clip soundwise.

There's a subtle hi-hat and quite a heavy shaker sound. The key is the snare, very snappy and hollow.

The first two bars of the original track are just the drums, you could just sample it?
