I took the R-Ware bundle, but not all the modules show up. Any ideas?

I have deleted my cache and modules to re-download everything ... fingers crossed it will pick up the missing modules.

Will report back later - gotta wait for the d/l's

you can clear VM's cache or remove all downloaded modules from the settings menu. that can help if modules fail to download:

if you're talking about the R_Ware X Airwindows bundle, the more recent modules are not part of the bundle yet. you can grab them individually for free though.

I'm completely new to modular synthesis, so this month challenge is quite a mountain to climb... Your two presets are a true gem for me, and immediately helped. THANK YOU !!!

It also immediately gives me clear understanding of the huge learning curve here :)

Here is my submission.
As for Cardinal (OSC #163), yet another generative ambient patch, but this time to encourage meditation rather than killing Predator. Beware that while I was doing it on the weekend I almost fell into a trance a couple of times... :D

https://soundcloud.com/sampleme/voltage ... al_sharing

I used one instance of Voltage Modular in Ableton Live 11.2.7

Free modules (outside the Nucleus Bundle):
Divide and Conquer https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/d ... nd-conquer
Mini LFO https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/mini-lfo-1
AW_TapeDelay2 https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/aw-tapedelay2
AW_Universe https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/aw-universe
Hääschen https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/haaschen

Stock Ableton FX: Glue Compressor, Limiter.

There is also a video version here:

Lastly, you can download the Voltage Modular patch preset for free if you want, the link is in the SC and YT descriptions.
Thanks for listening.

Hey...Wow! I am glad that I could have been helpful. Thanks for letting me know.

The learning curve is not that steep once you get used to it a little more. What helped me was constantly building the same patch again whenever I fired up VM. The great thing about VM is that you will become much more aware of how sound travels and develops while going through all modules. If you would like me to build something else to help you out just let me know. I will give it a try.

Here's my track:

The beginning will probably sound familiar, but then it develops in it's own direction :)

Studio One
14 instances of Nucleus
Native effects + 1 Valhalla Supermassive, EQ and Limiter on Master track

Hey folks, I'm new to this and want to get my understanding of the rules correct: functionality that is part of your DAW is allowed right? With the exception of modulating effects, massive distortion/reverb? So can I for example, use the Reason DAW mixer/dynamics/compression and sidechaining to mix/master/eq my sound?

Basically yes. You are not allowed to use effects that change the character of the synth, like modulation effects. You can use effects included with the synth though, e.g. the distortion module from Nucleus is OK to use.

You might take a look into the presets coming with VM. IIRC they include a "Basic Sine" and "Basic Sawtooth". They show a very basic setup of Oscillator, Amp, Env correctly wired up... they could be a good starting point.

QUASI SELF GENERATIVE AMBIENT PATCH TEMPLATE FOR DOWNLOAD
(inspired by YouSampleMe's patch)

https://thesoundofmerlin.com/ (bottom of the page)

It's not really self generative as the patch doesn't carry any randomness although it may sound that way a little. It can be made random though quite easily which I won't do in this case. I created this patch for a live performance and I want to play other instruments to it. Hence the mixing knobs and buttons in the performance section that I have assigned to a MIDI controller. When you open up this patch it will start playing automatically. I was inspired by "Voltage Landscape" and its video which is this month's entry by YouSampleMe who used the Divide and Conquer module which I didn't know. It is a clock divider by Hetrick CV.

By pressing a key on your MIDI keyboard you can alter the key as all the sequencers' CV offset inputs are connected to the pitch output of the main i/o module. The echoes however will go on for quite a while in the original key of C Minor. If you stop some of the sequencers and let their echoes fade away while one sequencer keeps on playing it may be a nice moment to change key.

Here's a trick that I haven't tried out yet but sounds quite nice in theory. The patch is running in C minor by default. If you would implement pitch quantizers to keep the exact same notes, changing key to F minor (evokes Dorian feel in this patch) or G minor (Phrygian feel in this patch) sounds quite nice while the echoes are still in C minor (Aeolian). No tonal clashing, only a change of atmosphere though it may sound a little chaotic if you do it adruptly. Set the quantizers to C, D, Eb (D#), F, G, Ab (G#) and Bb (A#) if you want to try out this idea. However I don't think there is a free quantizer available for VM so for the OSC it's a no go area for this round.

Have fun with it! Change tempo, change key, tweak all parameters, mute steps on the sequencers and whatever.

Is it allowed by rules to use MIDI effects like arpegiator? Drums?

Yeah midi plugins / devices are fine to use but you might want to record the midi to a track though.
