Bombadil, I don't have a problem with you programming your drums but if you don't see the internal lack of consistency in your holier than thou attitude you are more than a little blind. You've just proven the points that have been made in good faith against your argument. I guess you are just another great pretender like the rest of us DAW dependent fools.

i heartily recommend porcupine tree!!!
he's a great guitarist
seen them live several times, he can walk the walk![]()
If you listen to live versions of Pariah for instance you can hear how they both (but especially Ninet, who has the more demanding part - and yet the comments are full of praise for her skills) have troubles staying in pitch...
Compare that to the studio-recording:
No big deal at all.
about 20 people.
then a year or two later, at the academy, was packed!
then a few times over the years, benefit of living in the big city compared to here, and not driving it's a pain going to either manc or lpool for a late evening.
not seen him do his more recent solo stuff live yet though.

I understand. I am not holier than thou. Not to my mind. I get the internal inconsistency. I should learn drums, cello, harp, violin, flute, and so on, or, better yet, hire real musicians in a studio. I do not have the money to do that.Scotty wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:33 pm Bombadil, I don't have a problem with you programming your drums but if you don't see the internal lack of consistency in your holier than thou attitude you are more than a little blind. What I can do is sing something to the best of my ability and though it's far from superlative, it's authentic. The human voice is the most personal of instruments. Adding realism of a live studio performance with reverb and delay is only an enhancement. AT goes far beyond that. And that is a fact.

Wow!
Me neither. I don't go to concerts much anymore tbh. Alone I usually don't feel like it and for the missus and me together there's usually no opportunity. The three of us would be great, but the timing and location must be right. (Last October we actually wanted to go see Marillion in Dijon (with a three hour drive still our best option), which would have been on a Saturday so we'd have combined it with a nice autumn weekend in Burgundy, but then the missus had too much going on and suggested I go on my own - and I was actually considering it but then someone got ill at work and I had to jump in that Sunday.)then a year or two later, at the academy, was packed!

I never saw them with Fish myself.
I saw Fish many times solo and Marillion with H even more often, but my first Marillion concert was in '92 (first Fish gig in '91). Marillion are a superb live band because not only can they play but they put on a real show, so I would really love to be able to show our son as long as they're still going strong.

A real dummer might be inclined to take you to task for your short cuts. I won't. You do what you have to do and that should give some basis for humility. It seems that you rationalize your sins but judge others harshly for theirs. We'll leave it there. I'd like to hear your music. Not to judge it or you but to hear where you are coming from. You seem really passionate about it. That is always a good sign and I am sure you are an awesome player. . Thanks for hanging in there. Cheers. - Scotty

A real drummer living in an apartment would need to either pay for rehearsal space or use electronic drums. I've considered that, because a lot of my stuff doesn't do the kick = 1&3 and snare is not always 2&4. And I'd rather do that than enter notes on a grid, which I hate doing. But our apartment is too small, and is already stuffed with guitars. But of course you are right. I expect an actual drummer to be dubious of a non-drummer programming a midi performance. No doubt, they can do it better. So, I get it.Scotty wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 2:06 pm A real dummer might be inclined to take you to task for your short cuts. I won't. My original post was not meant to be taken as an insult or to be patronising. It was meant as a gentle poke.
I certainly didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition.
