Thanks, those are self mastered. I haven't posted the professional masters which are nicer balanced but I appreciate the ears.

I will still maintain that artificially tuning vocals is different from other studio tricks like compression, reverb, delay, or using sample-based instruments. And given popular music's decline over the last 25 years or so, it is a symptom of a larger problem. I mean, there are studies out there that demonstrate how music has become far more homogeneous than it every was, and it is a trend. Lack of imagination and talent permeates the music industry. AT is, imo, just a symptom of that greater problem.

Sometimes, I go to the open mic night and hear someone own the place with an acoustic guitar and a great vocal delivery. There is room for pure artistry and masterful musicianship. It is out there, you just need to find your tribe.

Yep and at the same time if that artist is in the studio, they probably use some form of pitch correction. Not because they can’t sing but because it’s a modern tool that can be used to enhance the overall song.Scotty wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 4:06 pm Sometimes, I go to the open mic night and hear someone own the place with an acoustic guitar and a great vocal delivery. I’ve never heard a truly bad singer sound great just by using Auto Tune. It really does not work like that. T-Pain really made Auto Tune a thing, but guess what? He’s an ok singer as well without it (look up his Tiny Desk Concert).
And Auto Tune can be used like Melodyne as well to where the pitch correction is there but no noticeable difference in the singers tonal qualities appear. Singing is much more than pitch. Power, dynamics and tone cannot be fixed with Auto Tune.

I agree and have done sweetening for good singers just because it did sound "better" by modern production standards. Billie Eilish is a damn fine singer and they don't hide the fact that they have hundreds of edits in their vocal tracks. It is what it is.

Exactly right. And not to mention it saves time. I don’t view it any different than “nudging” vocals left or right to correct timing. I guess if Auto Tune was around when The Beatles were recording, they probably would’ve used it. Paul McCartney on his last few albums is using pitch correction (Egypt Station and McCartney III). I wish Bob Dylan would’ve had access to Auto Tune lol jk.Scotty wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 7:20 pm I agree and have done sweetening for good singers just because it did sound "better" by modern production standards. I think the people against it don’t know how to use it in a subtle or musical way (or know it’s used that way on great singers). In the end it’s just a tool to enhance music not destroy it.
Any awards they win are greatly deserved as it is a phenomenal contribution to music production IMO.

It's proven that it's better to let kids play in the dirt. It's also a sign of the times that in Western civilization parents are over-cautious and don't want their kids to play in the dirt, they want their kids to grow up in a super clean overpolished (faked) world. It's a natural fact that the world isn't super clean per se and kids need some dirt, dust, mud and germs to strengthen their immune system to reduce the risk of diseases and and allergies.
Some people obviously think that music has been enhanced the last 25 years by producing over polished lifeless tracks.
COMPRESS a song to death, kill all the DYNAMICS, throw Distressor on every track! . Is there sum hum NOISE? , Izotope RX!!! Delete every plugin that adds hum or gear noise, don't wanna find it in a folder again, what do I see, CLA 76? with noise engaged? Use Distressor, isn't that what I told you, Distressor!!! You know the final procedure, make it louder than possible, we have a big choice of LIMITERS, maybe use three our four and not just on 2 bus! And QUANTIZATION, I want it everwhere for that robotic feel, kill everything that is natural, our studio - well, my bedroom - is called "plastic studio" for a good reason! I heard an "S", did you hear the "S", too? I would love to kill every "s" in the world. DE-ESS!!! Don't want LYRICS with any s any more, wt@ do we need new lyrics in every song, why lyrics at all? There are some parts where the singer is out of TUNE, we don't have time for a 2nd take, what? There were more than 40 TAKES of Beat it vocals?? Time is money! MJ was rich or let us say he was supported and sponsored, money thus also time didn't matter and Quincy & Co. didn't have to compete with 99.999 new releases every day! The song is 3 and a half MINUTES! , what did I tell you about time and money, do you think people have the nerve and time to listen more than 2,5 minutes to one song? Cut it down to two minutes! The time it took me to write this message, we could have produced 2 songs! Hurry up!
Throw Autotune on the out of tune vocals like every time, we do what the majority does, we pretend our system is democratic, but it's adapted, it's uniformity and repetition, comunism has taken over music business! What? It's not a good SINGER? I will show you how to make him a good singer and if correction does not work, we will use it as an effect to distract from his not existing TALENT.
Dr. Autotune Frankenstein has created a monster! It has become a virus! A super clean virus (the most dangerous ones) , but infecting, expanding and sickening music productions and my ears.
Hey! Is there some dust on my pc screen?
