Quick beginners query.
Wondering whether moving paid vsts like Pro Q3 and Transgressor 2 from one system to another is easy?

You just need to install it and go through the authorization process on the new system.
If you’re decommissioning the original system, be sure to deauthorize the software on it.

Depends on the vst. You wouldn't usually move paid plugins from one computer to another. You would install the software onto the new system. i presume you have to use a USB stick(?) to move stuff from an air gapped system, but have no hands-on experience with one somwe wrote: Sat Feb 11, 2023 9:56 pm Wondering whether moving paid vsts like Pro Q3 and Transgressor 2 from one system to another is easy?

The best way to get a handle on this is to look up the process for each company. if it's not clear from their online support, email their support and ask. Every company has a different process and sometimes they change that process. For example the Avenger synth used one kind of copy protection (DRM) and then changed it resulting in the way you move it from machine to machine to change. Another example is iLok: if you use an iLok dongle the licenses are on the dongle so its just a matter of plugging the dongle in the other machine (after installing the plugins there too). Some companies require you to de-authorize the plugins on the first computer before you can authorize on the other. etc. its complicated. best bet is to look up the process for each company you have plugins for.

I’ve been moving commercial plugins from machine to machine since the early 00s. A few have stopped working because the developer abandoned them and OS changes made them not work, but almost overwhelmingly, they still work.

I hated the idea of having to use an iLok dongle. Now its my preferred DRM for audio software. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯dmbaer wrote: Mon Feb 13, 2023 8:38 pm People hate iLok dongle-based authorization ... that is, until they need to move to a new DAW computer. Then it becomes a thing of beauty.
