I think Saturn is one of the most versatile ones, you can get different kind of flavors and the feedback gives you some interesting results.

Saturn, V-clip is good too.

I am going mobile in a few months and can’t take my hardware Avalons with me. What your take on the UA Avalon emulation apart from the nice overdrive abuse you are subjecting it to?

Klanghelm IVGI is incredibly good for saturation!

Was Spectre mentioned already? Thats why it is sometimes indeed a good Idea to 'restart' such kind of Topics. Less reading trough 15 Pages.

Depends on the source. Newfangled Saturate, Spectre, and the classic Softube are my current usual suspects. I keep meaning to use the HG-2MS and Tone Empire stuff more, and I've heard good things about the Klanghelm, but I haven't tried it yet.

I forgot Reelbus 3 and 4 and Barricade. and Alloy. and Kombinat DVA. and WA Tube Saturator.* or the on board distortion/overdrive especially if it can be placed early in the signal chain.

* i will gladly freeze a track to get the effect i want. i do it a lot just to keep my pace moving.

I’m not sure how much I can help you, as I have no experience with the hardware version, but I do like it a lot and I generally tend to keep it parked on my mic inputs. I find the UAD stuff to be good quality in general, and I use them primarily for my hardware instruments when their onboard effects are lack luster or non existent. These days, most of it can really be done with native plugins from companies like Softube, but when I bought my UAD, my machine wasn’t really up for the challenge. So… I’m glad I have it, but if I were to start from zero… I’m not sure if I’d go UAD again.

I don't know if it'll become my "go-to", but I picked up Diginoiz Distiller over the weekend. Liking it so far ... adds some "flavour", and it's on sale this week :) 50% Off.

FabFilter Saturn2. Good sound, multi band, so you can fire up the mids from the kick and leave the lows intact real quick, for example.

For multiband Ozone's Exciter is really good. Overlooked / underrated IMO.
