I've been sitting here in my Gannex mac for decades now and not a single hit. :(

Maybe too much time on forums!
I'm actually on windows desktop and want to go mac because of M1 Macbooks and because it seems all the songs I like were produced using a Mac, like every soundonsound article they show mac, ive literally never seen windows for any of the bands/songs/producers/mixers i've searched up. I'm super suppeeeer used to windows though, so I dont really want to make the switch but grass is always greener on other side, etcs....

Just typical 'first to market' stuff.

There was a time when Pro Tools was, quite literally, the only game in town when it came to hard disk recording with the ease of a computer based interface. As other options became available, older studios stuck with what they knew, and newer studios followed suit to aid interchange of projects and transferrability of skills. To this day, Pro Tools has an outsized presence in professional studios while being roundly ignored by almost everyone else.

Guess what brand of computer Pro Tools originally ran on...

I never thought there was anything wrong if anyone wants to copy the complete setup of someone who's sound they want to emulate.

I've known more than a few who started that way before developing their own sound. They didn't make a hit while we still kept in touch (but who knows now).

To be clear, I'm not just referencing the "sound" but also workflow because those are the steps that can get you there, especially if you're following along with tutorials or whatever you've seen that brought you to make this thread.

The downside is the time lost on learning a new system. I switched from Windows to Mac. I never cared much about any Win vs Mac debates because it's just placeholders for software and the audio you record in it.

It's definitely not necessary though.

The only reason to switch IMO is if you collaborate with people who are mostly using one system and you want to work on the same project without rendering tracks out.

But that last part is so much easier now... printing fx and rendering to audio files should be part of the workflow, so again making whatever system you use pointless.

A combination of peer pressure and of feeling uncomfortable being outside the in-crowd as regards the procurement of shiny new things might be an ongoing reason, another might be that Macs are shinier and more expensive so therefore 'better' despite having not been better for quite some time now.
'They are so shiny and not to mention better, and besides, everyone in this magazine has one' he said.
'I'll spend the extra thousand bucks and then I will be one of them, then they will love me'.
'Join us, join us, they roared outside the apple store, be a Pro like us real adults, not like those frooty loops neckbeards in their mom's basement making 'beats' with their dinky little baby-rattle toy software' they proclaimed.

The beat from that Rihanna track 'Umbrella' was some generic stock loop from Garageband I heard. Obviously a Mac moment. I'm sure they all made a lot of money with minimal technical effort. Can't get more Pro than that.

Now you've done it. We are enturbulated!

HREQ wrote: Sun Feb 12, 2023 2:14 pm most people who are Pros in the industry I.E. Chart toppers, hit songs, and all that are mostly all on Mac. Everytime I search up "who produced this song" or "who mixed this song" and I find them it's ALWAYS on a mac.
There was a time when that was true of most creative industries and, mostly, it was because people learned at art college or university on a Mac, so that's what they knew. More recently, a lot of companies have moved from Mac to PC, either running Windows or Linux, mostly because Apple have turned their back on a lot of professional markets. I know in broadcast TV, all the networks were using macs 5 or 6 years ago, now none of them are. So whilst it might seem like Mac is dominant at the moment, I think that is likely to change over time, given Apple's preference for iOS apps over professional software.

That said, Logic is still a big draw for many and will keep a lot of Mac users using Macs.

Lastly, if you think the brand of computer you use will help you achieve anything in your life, you're a f**king idiot. You need to look deeper and see which tools they are running on their Macs. Then you will see that it's mostly the same stuff you can run on your PC if that's what you know better.

Music made on Macs has a wider soundstage, with more warmth and depth.

Music made on PCs has more high-end "sizzle" and presence.
A well-behaved signature.

Professional douches seem to prefer Macs, but professional musicians use whatever they or the suits like.

Is Macintosh the official computer of Guitar Center, then?
