Whether you choose a Mac or PC
Depends entirely on who you want to be:

I like both. But, now, I have electricity 2-6 hour a day. So I need something to work on a battery without performance penalty and a quite sometime. Sold my PC and bought M1 Pro MacBook. I see no difference for creativity, Win11 and MacOS is very similar, one annoying difference is ctrl and cmd buttons.
I will probably go PC as soon as situation in my country is changed. I like to build PCs.

I switched to Mac for music production about six years ago and I’m pretty sure I’m finally on the verge of fame because of it.

This guy here has real issues. For all others complaining about 1st world problems and being so needy and snowflakey, GFY.Serhii Kot wrote: Tue Feb 14, 2023 6:53 am I like both. Sir, please stay safe and I hope one day soon you will have electricity 24/7. God speed
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

In my trade (I'm a programmer) we call this "Cargo Cult": certain things you do only because everyone else is doing it, not because it's actually and objectively any better or serves a real purpose.HREQ wrote: Mon Feb 13, 2023 11:46 pm I'm actually on windows desktop and want to go mac because of M1 Macbooks and because it seems all the songs I like were produced using a Mac, like every soundonsound article they show mac, ive literally never seen windows for any of the bands/songs/producers/mixers i've searched up. I'm super suppeeeer used to windows though, so I dont really want to make the switch but grass is always greener on other side, etcs....
Since I can't be arsed to come up with the text, I asked ChatGtp for its opinion:
Both Mac and Windows computers are used by professionals in the music industry, and the choice often comes down to personal preference, specific requirements, and workflow.
Historically, Macs have been a popular choice among music professionals, and many well-known producers and musicians have used Macs for years. Macs have a reputation for being stable, reliable, and optimized for creative tasks like music production, and they are often seen as an industry standard. Many music production software tools are optimized for macOS, and some are only available for Macs.
That said, Windows computers are also widely used by music professionals, particularly those who require high-performance hardware or who prefer the flexibility and customization options that Windows-based systems offer. Windows-based music production software has improved significantly over the years and is now on par with macOS-based software in terms of functionality and performance.
Ultimately, the choice between Mac and Windows for music production comes down to personal preference, budget, and specific requirements. Many music professionals use both, depending on the project and workflow needs.

Yeah I'm having that "cargo cult" type of thinking i.e: "ooh shiny new powerful MBP's, m1 so fast and efficient, I can use same system as my idols"
I never would of considered a laptop until I read about these new MBP's... I've always been on desktop and built my own computers. I tried searching for an equivalent Windows laptop TBH but always fall short and uncertain about the mobile CPUS. I had thought of a mobile system I could dock into at home and unplug and take anywhere, seems really cool. I started to feel kind of locked down to my room, but would I really be at starbucks or in a park making beats? I'm not sure, I usually sit in one room for 5+ hours when doing this to stuff
tl;dr personal story ahead, doesnt matter cause once I settle down I'll mostly be in one room lol
Another reason lately is I've been moving and unfortunately stuck in hotels/motels while I try to find a new place to rent. At first I literally brought my desktop and just set it up in the motel but there was a limit to how long your allowed to stay, and the next motel had a limit too. Crazy cause I was paying 125 a night lol so I left it in storage while I work and search for a place to rent for a year again (main problem is everyone wants F+L+S+ to move in aka 6k usd) So I've been using my phone and thinking this entire time "Dang, sure would of been nice if I had bought a M1 or laptop by now, could of been working on my projects"
it feels so horrible to just sit without your projects or working towards anything, and just browsing phone, it gets to you after a while lol

So you do have a practical reason… but wouldn’t that eat into your F+L+S needs? It might not be as fun getting settled, but it’s likely safer and more rewarding.

I suggest you use whichever OS you are most comfortable with. If you spent 20 years using one OS, you'll not enjoy switching, and it's going to make zero difference to your talent for making music either way.

I knew him before he switched to Mac. Now my girlfriend is obsessed with him. He and Magic Mike that’s all she talks about. I’m fed up. It’s not fair.
