The only Jimmy I know is to go for a Jimmy (Riddle)..
However, I do not own an stereo at home. I have an iPod and use external speakers when I want to listen to music at home. I do not buy music over the 'net (poor credit=no credit card
) so I need to buy CDs and rip them to mp3s. I've bought copy protected CDs (by accident/stupidity) and they are just gathering dust.
Thanks for the tips above; maybe I can finally listen to the Massive Attack CD!

Want to change your additive synth into an addictive one? You just need 5000 Cs!

I use Exact Audio Copy which doesn't seem to care much about CD protection.. you can also use winamp with a wave out plugin

woah! 5 pages of reply lol
sorry ppl been busy last few days...anyways...i tried everything you guys said...turn off autoplay, tried like 10 different programs, hold shift key, and guess what? NOTHING WORKED! lol
this cd is so freakin tough to crack man....i'm wondering if i install linux on different partition on my hard drive, would that help me? but again i'm getting this feeling from many of your posts that its the hardware(cdrom) that matters. ie: i will never be able to rip this cd unless i get some better cd rom drive. confused

just play the thing and record the output. set soundforge just to record and go away for an hour. the breaks between songs will be obvious and you can just chop the wav into its various songs.
much easier and faster than stuffing about with linux or downloading mystery apps.

When you first put the CD into your computer, it probably told you that you need to install software for it to run properly. All you had to do was say "no thanks".DiGGi-DaNGa wrote:this cd is so freakin tough to crack man....i'm wondering if i install linux on different partition on my hard drive, would that help me? but again i'm getting this feeling from many of your posts that its the hardware(cdrom) that matters. ie: i will never be able to rip this cd unless i get some better cd rom drive. confused
(apologies if this has already been covered earlier in the thread)

Copyright law states that it is not illegal to make a backup of a disc you own.kaden wrote:I wonder how helpful y'all would have been if the request had of been 'I just bought a copy protected soft synth...can you tell me how to rip it'.
Geez, kids...
K
Mp3's constitute as a back-up.

Oh yeah, I also once bought Kosheen's Kokopelli. Of course, it came protected.
My computer can't even play the disc!!
Needless to say I've never bought another Kosheen album again, and I wont either. I'd sooner rip them off.
Corporate whores think they own the world.

Okay, its like this. The morality of copyright is a really confusing issue. The law was enacted, so the story goes, to encourage artists (specifically writers), to share their work. I mean why share a story that you wrote if some charming rogue can just come along and take all the credit and the earnings just by printing it first? More seriously, it just plain wouldn't be fair if some corporate bastard could just make money off of artists without said artists having some sort of legal recourse. This is what copyright law was supposed to be. Is this how it works? Hardly.
I, for one, think that IF one is concerned about supporting artists, and IF one is also concerned about NOT supporting the bloated wasteful machine that screws them over, then one might try the following:
Copy whatever c.d. You want to copy.
Find a mailing address for the artists.
Send $5 dollars in the mail to any artists whose c.d.s You decide to keep.
This way the artists get more money than they would from the record company and the record company gets zip.
Note that these suggestions are totally hypothetical. I AM NOT ENCOURAGING ANY SUCH ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.
But I do think that its interesting that following these suggestions would be more true to the spirit of copyright law than just buying the album.
