I just spent about an hour with HALion 7 so far, but I'd say yes, since you have a lot of algorithms to choose from and may even create your own algorithms. As a matter of fact, the init is cpnfigured with all eight operators routed to output, and with just feedback on Op.1, so it's a good way to start with it as additive.FakeNatty wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:17 pm For people who have this:
Can the FM module be used as an additive synthesis module with 8 oscillators?
YesFakeNatty wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:17 pm Are the individual frequencies definable as ratios of the each other?
YesFakeNatty wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:17 pm Are the FM operators' individual frequency, amplitude, and phase all available for modulation from lfo, envelopes, etc.?

Well, that was pretty quick. I registered Absolute 5 about an hour ago and my grace period update to Absolute 6 just showed up under Vouchers. https://account.steinberg.net/vouchers
I'm surprised by the speed, and thought it might take a day or so. Now installing ....

Glad to see Yamaha themselves getting involved!
Now the possibility of Line6's Variax guitar modeling tech being implemented in a future Cubase version is not that far-fetched!
I know there's already the Helix effects plugin but I'm talking about the guitar modeling found in the Variax guitars - but taken to a whole new level: plug in your guitar straight to the soundcard, start Cubase and make it sound like a 12-string acoustic, Sitar, Shamisen, Banjo etc. etc.
Back to topic: These new Halion 7 features are so great and amazing!
Thank you Steinberg!

Some really really great updates IMO. Spectral zone is lots of fun!
I just hope they enlarge and spread out all of the tiny buttons, this is just horrible:

I’ve never even actually demoed Halion. Not sure why. Seems like something I’d love.

I’ve been working in Maya (a 3d modeling/animation app) none stop for a few weeks and that looks absolutely roomy to me.EvilDragon wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 2:16 pm Some really really great updates IMO. Spectral zone is lots of fun!

Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere and I missed it: Is FM Lab a standalone version of Halion 7's FM Zone? That's the impression I get but am not sure. I'm really only interested in that as I don't use samples much.

FM Lab is a library of presets entirely made using the FM part of the current HALion engine. It doesn't work standalone, only inside HALion (and HALion Sonic, I presume).nominil wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:24 pm Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere and I missed it: Is FM Lab a standalone version of Halion 7's FM Zone? I hoped, being able to set scale factor on GUI would be part of the update, but unfortunately they missed it.EvilDragon wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 2:16 pm Some really really great updates IMO. Spectral zone is lots of fun!

That's what the blurb on Synth Anatomy seemed to say, but the page on Steinberg's site makes it look like a standalone, fully-programmable instrument: https://www.steinberg.net/vst-instruments/fm-lab/fmr wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:34 pmFM Lab is a library of presets entirely made using the FM part of the current HALion engine.
