Hey guys i read late to the party that izotope conzinues to suck even more and im worried as i use trash 1 and 2 a lot but it seems i shall not do it in future. I dont see however any plugin which might replace them? For me it seems distortion plugins are not really cared?
I didnt test rift or saturn much but afaik e.g ohmicide and trash still offer much more amps etc. Im wondering why there is still? Nothing comparable, (u-he? :)) and mire turstworthy in support from another company.

If im wrong im of course thankful for recommendations.

It feels like 10000 compressors and 10 distortions on the market :D

Thx

Definitely try out Arturia ColdFire. If you're after the Impulse loading thing, dont forget Voxengo Boogex. With that said, a true Trash2 contender is not really in sight so far.

Kilohearts distortions are awesome, Faturator, Distortion & Phase Distortion my most used ones. I have Trash for years but i rarely use it. Also Mars distortion (freeware) is very good one :-)

This has some similarities to the distortion part of Trash

There arent a lot which combine one with a convolver, that was basically izotope copying Speakerphone and Futzbox, but if that's a loss, use one separately, they dont have to be the same plugin.

Maybe have a look at the Driveshaper distortion (and Crushshaper bitcrusher) that are part of Shaperbox3.

I never got into Trash - got it free years ago, tried it a few times, and deleted it as my ears didn't hear anything special about it.

For distortion (excluding saturation), I get by just fine with Blue Cats Destructor, Saturn2, The Scream, and now also Fury. I've deleted many others I bought and used to use. I suppose Shaperbox 3 also has distortion but the others I listed are better at it.

There's no One Plugin for me, but if I had to pick one, I'd have a hard time between Saturn2 and Fury... probably end up with Saturn2.

I'd recommend Minimal Audio Rift and Output Thermal. Not exactly the same, but in the same ballpark IMO.

After lots of digging to find a replacement for Trash after Izotope sunsetted it, I finally landed on something that I now feel is actually an improvement over Trash. Blue Cat's Destructor has been around forever and doesn't get a lot of love, but it sounds incredible, and it's deep af. It has compression, filtering, convolution, gating, wave shaping, but the magic is in the "Shape Dynamics" section in the advanced tab of the "Destruction" module.

Rob Papen Distort 2 is pretty comprehensive.

One more advanced plugin that's being overlooked is Universal Audio Dent 2. Sounds really amazing and is able to achieve very wide range of distorted sounds.

How can you say that distortion plugins are limited? There's a f**king million of them out there.

Maybe consider spinning up one of those famous kvr-list-a-plugin threads?

Oh, look. Here's one already!

I'm still looking for alternatives to Ohmicide and Ohmboyz. Single page interface with tons of flexibility and an incredibly musical sound and design. I also loved how you could morph between preset on Ohmicide with midi.

Thank for mentioning our plug-in. The dynamic distortion curve is indeed a key feature to achieve great sounding distortion and all sorts of other non-linear effects:

The tone maps feature is also a great way to build great distortion tones without having to dive deep into all the parameters.

NP! Love the dynamic distortion.
