IK and the Amplitube line really sucks in this regard..

I had a few projects in 32 bit that were using the Amplitube Metal plugin. With a new computer, something in Cubase 8 is broken and now am forced into a newer version of Cubase that no longer takes 32 bit. And here lies the problem.
With Native instruments, Steinberg or just about any manufacturer, if you upgrade say to the new NI Guitar Rig 6, you can be sure that your Guitar Rig 5 presets are going to sound identical in 6. With IK not so. Take just about any sound(effect) in Amplitube 4 and load it into Amplitube 5 and it sounds different. And that same sound will sound different in the older standalone 32-bit vst if available.
So IK, just say that it's a totally new instrument but don't bother advertising compatibility because other than the name, the legacy models sound all different from 4.0 to 5.0. Now maybe there's a way through programming to make them sound alike, but if settings are matched 1:1, I expect the same sound not something different.
I especially notice this in programs that use two amps in a stereo configuration. Something just not translating right.
So as a standalone product, Amplitube has great sounds. But as for compatibility between versions, not good.

You can install multiple versions. At least as far as the PC goes I've been able to maintain backward compatiblity. I had issues when I made the leap to 64 bit OS about 10-12 years ago and had to wrap the 32 bit plugins with jbridge and then the presets were still not properly recalled. Fortunately I had my older 32 bit computer available and just manually copied the settings across by hand. Other than that , within the 64 bit years at least I've been able to recall projects without issue as long as I had the older version of amplitube installed. If you can find the old installers you might want to try that. IK still shows my old amplitube registrations in my account.

A4 still comes up as a validated AU in Logic's Plugin Manager, for me, so I have backward compatability.*
But I've noticed differences in sound calling up A4 presets in A5 as well.
*I haven't actually opened up A4 on my M1 mini, but it is allegedly there…

These plugins are not meant to be drop on replacements though. They update the sound with each version and should IMO. If you’re a PC user it’s a non issue. The old versions will load and continue to work. On Mac, my only advice is: print your stems. Which is good advice for everyone honestly.

Yeah the sound changed when they went from 'ultra realistic' to 'hyper realistic.'

(Though TONEX is already there. At least for the one setting you capture.)

Don't forget that it's an Italian company.
In Italy there are more devs than in any other country and Italian devs with lots of products rule this business. End of 1970s there were already quite a lot of daws and home pcs in Italy not officially released and more simple than today, people kept it secret, but many Italo Disco releases proved that there must have been a special production tool different from other countries. So people are used to have their own version of software, I would not even be surprised if every current version of an IK Multimedia product was slightly different, that would be cool and if you are lucky you bought a better version or unit than someone else. Ciao !

I don’t mind a developer updating things, but I stopped using Amplitube a long time ago when they moved to their new store model. I don’t want to see thousands of presets for products I don’t own every time I look for one. I quickly realized that if I kept buying Amplitube models, I’d easily spend more than a Kemper and have few amp models that didn’t sound as good, so I bought one. Then years went by and I never once spent a dime on anything guitar related. Finally I got a bee in my bonnet about recreating my old dual amp stereo rig, so I moved to an AxeFX 3, getting a decent chunk of money for my Kemper. Since then… not a dime spent on any amp modelers. Oddly, Fractal never asks me for more money.

do re mi fa so la ti do - Italian!
Who was the first successful super star with a big concert tour? Ever heard of
Paganini?
What roots do Frank Sinatra and Zappa have?
Who is called the best guitarist in the world? Ever heard of Al di Meola?
Is it coincidence that Elvis looked very Italian?
Ruffalo, Cavallo and Magnoli - ever heard these names who were managers of one of the biggest success in music history?
The productions of the most successful
German producer Diether Bonham is based on Italo Disco.
Which country is the country of opera?
In Italy plugins were already known before the first plugin was ever released.
They weren't called plugins.
As a kid my neighbor Giovanni let me watch his small computer screen in a small dark room.
On the screen there were black and white tracks and I could take a listen sometimes on headphones only, even though he had speakers and he always asked me not to say anything about his music productions.
It was in 1980s. Now he's not alive any more. The music generally would not be what it is without Italian inventors, developers and artists. Italy is the mother country of music.

Problem is, when the standalone vsts for their collections went to A4, the standalones stopped being updated so all are stuck in 32 bit. It's more trouble than it's worth to use a wrapper as things get glitchy.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Feb 19, 2023 3:52 am These plugins are not meant to be drop on replacements though. I know people are saying the models sound different when going from realistic to hyper realistic, but seriously, listen to a few of the amps from A4 and compare to A5, they are really different. Not in a bad way but just different like it's a totally different amp.
I can't see a modeler like the Kempler for instance giving that different a result if using an older version of it. (If such a thing is available)
Maybe it's more the mics that they are emulating that are capturing the sound of the amps? I dunno.
