ToneX does have knobs you can change that do affect the tone. I don't know how accurate they are the further you get from the point the snapshot was taken, though.vurt wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:21 pmiks tonex only takes a snapshot, a preset, you can't change it.noiseboyuk wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:12 pm Something I don't really get is that - from my understanding - the modelling in the new amps in GR6 is akin to IK's Tonex. (or is that wrong?) If so, it should be trivial to add more amps, as with Tonex. Since NI promised many more models to come, how come there are still precisely zero new ones?
Maybe their graphic designers are super meticulous.
if this is a full range model, with knobs that work, id assume it takes a little more "something" but im no programmer!

Those knobs are just a generic EQ that can be applied before or after the capture. They're not doing anything to actually model the amp knob positions. The Gain knob is just an input gain. The volume knob is just a trim. It's not a full blown amp model in that regard.

The thing is, most of those TONEX presets sound great without much tweaking as people are capturing the ideal end of chain sound, it also has a pretty decent reverb. Running it inside AmpliTube obviously gives you a lot more tweakability with fx etc, but I have been surprised by how often the TONEX sound is right…
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Never used tonex but this is the way to go. Pro attitude, less tweaking involved.SLiC wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:12 pm The thing is, most of those TONEX presets sound great without much tweaking as people are capturing the ideal end of chain sound, it also has a pretty decent reverb. First and foremost: We need great songs (again)

After all the praises for Tonex and the condemnation of GR this turned out interesting...pixel85 wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 7:44 am And no automation. Tonex may be good for guitarists but it can't be used as a sound design tool and beyond, while GR can be.

I'm not a guitar player but I tried Tonex because a friend was pushing me to try it. I did it with not much knowledge about it besides that it has 'AI blah blah' (aka new "vintage").martinjuenke wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 8:05 amAfter all the praises for Tonex and the condemnation of GR this turned out interesting...pixel85 wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 7:44 am And no automation. I lost interest at the moment when I turned some knobs and I got a stuttering audio glitch. My first thought was "so those are just IRs and even Acustica Audio managed to do it better". Am I right or am I wrong? I don't know. It simply didn't impress me enough to care
GR is a different beast. It has modulations etc. and no glitches while changing parameters. Of course, it has its own issues but Tonex is not for me for sure.

Sometimes layoffs change the course of history. A pointy haired boss could lay off a supposedly superfluous office worker that mainly brought infectious good cheer to the workplace, only to find that the move ticked off a key player(s) higher up in the company, who then left for happier, not to mention more secure, environs. NI is not above shooting themselves in the feet. Nor are some of their competitors

What you have to understand is:
1. These are not impulses at all
2. They're captures of an amp at one setting
3. Those knobs you were turning don't glitch on any setup I've used TONEX - not sure why you heard glitching that's not typical at all and should not happen
4. Those knobs are basically an algorithmic pre or post-EQ - those are not sampled, same for the reverb, noise gate, etc., only the amp or stomp are AI models
5. I don't know why your friend was pushing it on you, it doesn't offer a ton of other FX and is a pretty bare-bones amp/stomp application - no chorus, flange, reverb, pitch fx, etc.
6. It's ok if you don't like it and prefer GR6

3. I tried it again and this time it's not glitching. Dunno why it did the first time.
4. I can turn knobs on amps and pedals in Tonex. Like in this amp in the picture. So are those captures of one setting or not? Or maybe the free version of Tonex doesn't have Tonex at all and only algorithmic models from Amplitube?
5. Because apparently, it sounds great. Something I can't confirm or deny because I don't have enough experience with amps and pedals. I have only OCD from that free collection which I'm too lazy to compare because it would require a bit of rewiring. I can only say that it definitely doesn't sound bad, most likely even better than GR but I didn't touch amps in GR for ages.

I might be the only one but I hate the tonex snapshot technology, I rather have semi accurate models like NI guitar rig have that let you tweak parameters to you needs than just browse thought a endless series on snapshots that may be 80% there but you cant tweak it to suit your source, from what i've compared to some of the hardware (example pedals) NI guitar rig models aren't that far off the originals, I've tested the big muff, the stone phaser, the mxr phase 90, and the Ce2, the ds-1 and they are pretty similar and offer the usual software benefits like full recall, stereo signal and processing options.
