Not using wifi, bluetooth,sata,sound
Dspchecker ( for me ) is a tool im only using if i need to find a problem.
Its always a lottery with mobos but with this board Im happy, my studiospeakers is dead silent and they are set to max volume.

Intel has a faster high end version of its 12900 desktop chip - the 12900KS - coming. Multicore performance is up 11% according to some reports.
Also, Alder Lake HX laptop parts with 16 cores (8 golden cove and 8 gracemont efficiency cores) and 30 MB of cache and BGA interface are on the way for high end laptops. TDP of 55 watts should keep them toasty warm.

ETAs for these were not stated on Tom's Hardware.

ARM devices do not have bragging rights for outright number-crunching power, they have lots of points on the board for power efficiency. So handheld devices belong to ARM at this stage but could easily be overtaken by something else in time. Compute intensive stuff (eg Crypto mining) is being done with graphics processors - horses for courses. Lots of laptops are basically desktop replacements and power consumption/weight are secondary to screen size and performance. The other thing is production capacity. Intel has masses of production capacity and is just in the process of massively expanding on what it already has. The market for devices is enormous and feeding it requires access to all the required resources and masses of production capacity.

If some guy in a garage came up with something better next week, it would take ages to scale up to the point where it could displace the big players and they would have massive incentives to buy him out or steal his tech - look what Intel did with the Digital's Alpha platform - which ( 25 years ago) had a 25 year trajectory laid out ahead of it according to Digital. Intel stole the key features from Digital's obviously superior architecture and fed them into x86 and when confronted with the legal response to this theft they did what was demanded and bought the company outright for 3 billion bucks to compensate Digitals share holders. Good ideas find homes everywhere - AMD used the same sorts of hi-speed serial transport busses Digital used in the Alpha (HyperTransport) in the Opteron/Athlon.
Intel were forced to hand on a bunch of stuff they got from the buy-out of Digital to Compaq to avoid anti-trust problems.

Geez those were the days, when IT companies actually had to worry about anti-trust considerations.

Intel's number is low. Anandtech got 272W from their AVX2 benchmark, for example. But there's also a difference between peak load (the most it'll draw), and sustained.. where it'll tend to turn the clock speeds down, after a few seconds, to stay within thermal limits, and that then reduces the power usage. Stuff like DDR5 will change things too. The ~330w figure is if you run it as fast as it'll go on regular cooling (the i9 is unlocked, remember).

Either way, the numbers for full core loads, even at stock speeds, are very high. These systems are not something you'd want around you unless it's in a large airy or air-conditioned room, and even then..
the 12600 is already i a better position regarding wattage, but its pretty much deluded to compare it to the 6 core 5600x, especially with cinebench. 10 cores are 10 cores, no matter how much the 4 "e-core" contribute to the benchmarks, they contribute.

but allover the 12600 is pretty darn giving amd an arsekick for the better, if you put it inbetween an 6 core ryzen and an 12 core ryzen. for audio i even guess its the better single core performance for intel now - in terms of performance/price. tough comeback, and faster than i thought.

and yes "people need to think through the full consequences of that". a giant cpu heater with the most expensive boards actually plus the immense energy waste, while you dampen the cpu power by using wrong gfx cards or old ram due to the ...reality ^^. oh and the not so cheap and easy cooling system one needs:D
They do indeed add some magic to Benchmarks those 4 extra E-Cores but that is in Benchmarks which they are made for so it can look as impressive as possible.

The reason they compare it to a 6 Core 5600x is because it is a 6 core cpu when used in a Daw or games and the E-cores also give you audio clicks and pops if a vst lands on one of them.

So they have no practical use in a Daw or games yet.

I dont know where this comes, the e-cores would give clicks and pops? There are people with 700 tracks on Protools using P&E cores together without any problem so may have to be something to do with either OS or DAW host or...

The P Cores on the 13th gen are really great and fast and my Intel i5 13500 beats my Ryzen 5700x in Performance 6 Real cores vs 8 on the 5700X but as soon as a E-Core is grabbing a vst all channels starts to make random Click and pop sounds.

But i also noticed that all my Cores where Heavilly parked in Windows Taskmanager so i unparked all the cores.
I have also set the affinity to only use the first 12 Cores 6 + hyperthreading on startup .

Even Steinberg Doesn't recommend using Intel 12 gen or other new hybrid cpu's without disabling the E-Cores.

Steinberg has other problems already with their core atm. so no wonder...
Friends have updated their DAWs to 12 and 13th gens, on Ableton, no problem has yet encountered even with heavy plugin usage so I dunno. Might be something to do with the DAW host I guess?

I know.
Cubase seems to be only good as a HW Midi and Audio player these days and the vst support is slowly degrading it seems so i don't have Cubase 12 installed anymore and use other daws that do work properly.

After i did the latest windows update and Stopped the weird Agressive Core parking that was happening the 13500 is running smooth as butter (Did also update the bios to the latest version incase there where some mismatch there).

So you where right that there was something else going on that i didn't catch until i did some diving into windows to find the cause.

Not sure why it decided to Agressively park my Cores since i always use the High performance profile in Windows so a window gremlin must have escaped somewhere in there :hihi:

KS is a selected version of K that has better performance.
Because of manufacturing limitations, not all chips with same name (ex. 12900 K) perform the same.
The K version that you purchase from market might perform lower or better as a KS version.
Large PC Manufacturers always get the best chips.

When any one of the P or E cores overload, you get clicks and pops, even if the other cores are not fully loaded.
As long as the single core performance of the E cores is not exceeded, Cubase will not produce pops and clicks.
Many DAWs do not use the E cores (including Logic). Hope there will be an update from Cubase on Win and Mac.

Can't really say if this is the place for it but -

I'm using 8th gen i7 8700K with 32gb 1000mHz DDR4 ram. Nvme drives only. 3rd genn, though.

Some of my projects require track freezing, most are at 70%.

Is it worth upgrading to 13th gen, 4th gen nvme and ddr5 at this point?

If I'm getting only 20-40% better performance I'll wait until 15th gen. 8th vs 2nd gen i7 was night and day improvement. More than doubled real-life performance.

I moved from an 8086k to a AMD 7700X , this gave me a single core boost of 70% and 2 extra cores. Not any issue with crackles on my heave vst pglugins chains

Wirh that said upgrade a CPU which is 5 years old helps.

I choosen a Ryzen as i dont trust Machine to handle p and e cores properly.
