From the Legend album, soundtrack to the Robin of Sherwood tv show from the early/mid eighties. The intro to the song 'Herne' is lovely, sounds like a wavetable choir perhaps? I know they used a prophet 5, but I can't imagine that's what this is. Does anyone know?

My guess is that Clannad used an early sampler (i.e. Fairlight CMI IIx/1983,
or E-mu Emulator II/1984) to sample and playback their own voices for
these kind of atmospheric long vocal sounds.
Since the "Legend" album from 1984 was partly recorded in Dublin's Windmill Lane
Studios and U2 recorded parts of their "The Unforgettable Fire" (same year) album also in that
studio - on which a Fairlight CMI IIx is clearly featured/the typical orchestral hit sample in
its title track - I think it would most possibly be this legendary sampling workstation Clannad
used as well.
Cheers
