Do you copyright your songs before showing it to producers?

Haven't any of you ever taken advantage of your local performing rights association? ASCAP or BMI in the US, GEMA in the EU. APRA here in Australia. They are all non-profit organisations dedicated to getting royalties to people who earn them. You register yourself, you register each of your works and they make sure if it gets played anywhere, you get money. It's also an excellent way to prove who had the music first. It should be all you need.
