Unfortunately, i am not a DIY guy and i guess this becomes a technical world/rabbit hole all on its own, which pushes you even further away from anything music related. At that point you are pretty much an engineer, right..

Impressive, but i won t be going that route.
If you mean that it takes time, sure. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it "pushes you even further away from anything music related" though. Modular is intrinsically technical and building gear has something of a symbiotic relationship with using it up to a point. Pieburger is obviously committed to DIY, and I used to be more that way, but, it does slow things down. That can be good or bad, depending on your perspective. I now allow DIY to supplement commercially built modules.

I also think that you can be slightly less committed than Pieburger with building and still be successful. I think that you can easily build DIY through-hole kits with about $100 worth of tools. You don't really need a scope, but you do need, at minimum, a multimeter. Sometimes this makes for a dramatic difference. The Befaco Lich is nearly $400 assembled but under $200 in kit form.

To be clear, I don't think that DIY is for most people. It's not because most people aren't capable, they are, but because it is "something else" and it does have a learning curve, and also a stress factor. I have a module that I built about two years ago and only just now powered it up. It doesn't work, I remember not testing it at the time for reasons, now it's back to the bench to figure out what I missed.

I'm not sure if you have had experience of working with a modular in software? That's kind of how I started..I found that it was easier to create my own sounds on a modular like Arturia's Moog Modular than a non modular synth because it was more logical in layout. I then switched to modular.

I have a modular from one maker only and another which has mainly one maker with a 3 or 4 other makers. I much prefer the single maker one.

Be clear on what you want to use it for. I started a modular to do one thing and then because of complicated reasons I had to then steer it towards something else and now I have something that is neither one thing or another.

I was lucky I didn't get into Eurorack because at the time it wasn't really that big with probably only 10 or so makers. I choose another format that is much more limited and as a result I built my modulars and they have remained unchanged and complete for about a decade or more.

4u, 5u, or frac? I think that it's pretty much impossible for a Eurorack modular to be complete.

The mixed one is Frac. Blacet, Wiard, Bananalogue (Serge) plus a couple of Oakley & MOTM modules in Frac Format.

My other modular is a Wiard 300 series.

For now i have gone the semi modular route with the Grandmother. I will also hook up other semi modular stuff i have.
Already a lot of tinkering possibilities with just the Grandma. :D

glad to hear you're having fun, when you disappeared after saying you had one on the way, i had visions of you, tangled up in cables, unable to reach a keyboard to even ask for assistance in getting untangled! :o

I m getting there.
The path cables provided though are not as long as to prohibit me from dialing 911.

Nice. I'm a fan of Grant Richter's work. I have some translations in Eurorack, but I wouldn't say that either the build quality or the aesthetics are on par.
