Korg Prologue tuning issues fixed?

On release apparently a few Prologues had oscillator tuning issues, where if you hit a note repeatedly it would go out of tune. Sounds like it was up to a max 15 cents and it didn't get any worse with further playing, but still - I wouldn't want a tune-drifting analogue, certainly not in 2023. A search around looks like there was an OS fix possibly released, and then there was an OS 2.0 update but I couldn't find stuff like how many synths were affected and if it was truly fixed. Most posts I could find on that issue were several years old.

A recent backpay means I could get a Prologue. TBH I was fairly set on getting a Minilogue XD, and figure that 4 voices will do for me. I don't play live, rarely use 2-hand chords, and on a beast of an analogue like Korg's I wouldn't be using unison that much - unison is for weak VSTi IMO. So - I'm kinda scratching around for a solid reason to go up to an 8-voice Prologue. Seems like the XD has almost all of the stuff a Prologue has, just 4 fewer voices. Initial search says the sequencer, arp etc is the same. I can't find any differences in the FX, and user oscillators and FX look to be the same number in Prologue8 and XD. I'm pretty sure I've just got GAS for a big poly analogue just cos I've got some money floating around. Every time I've seriously looked at things like Summit, Sequential, PolyBrute etc I go away thinking I just don't need a big poly. But I have this nagging urge to get one :dog: . If tuning is still an issue it will put my silly urge to bed. I already ruled out Summit - too expensive even though I could get one, and I absolutely don't need 32 voices. Brutes...yeah, nice but I just know I love Korg filters above most others.

I've had zero tuning issues with my Prologue-8 bought in 2019. I think fw 2.0 came shortly after.
- first 20 minutes if needing to play right away you just press shift+exit to tune, takes 5s
- when playing presets using digital multi engine which is always tuned it's more apparent
- presets with fm also more apparent
- but after 20 minutes nothing to think about

I think XD has some sequencer not in Prologue. But the extra voices allows Prologue to combine two preset layers and still have 4 voices getting Prologue-8. Rather smooth browser to just try out listening what works as layer or split.

Prologue is a incredibly nice sounding synth. Together with a REV2-16 and NL2X I'm good. Got rid of Polybrute, Wavestate and DeepMind.

Thnx, good to know. What info I could gather was that only a few had the issue. Interesting re XD sequencer. I guess it's more recent, so it makes sense if it's been pimped. I really like the recent Korg synth sequencers. You can layer 2 patches on top of each other on the Prologue, or only split?

Post

There are 3 options for blending patches - main and sub
- split
- layer
- crossfade, the higher on keyboard the more main patch

There is main and sub balance setting too.

The only thing I missed a couple of times if doing split is to separately transpose each main or sub separately. But flipping oscillators an octave up or down either side was workaround.

I sometimes wonder if tuning was why the first owner sold the Prologue I bought. I have never had an issue, but I think I undated to firmware 2.1 immediately. I truly love mine, but it has its flaws.

Yeah, I can see areas where they could have pushed the boat out a little bit - more than one LFO is the obvs one. But those filters  . I saw there was a highpass filter that could be downloaded as a user FX, which means it can pretty well be made into a poly MS20. I suppose I can do that with both a Prologue and an XD though. TBH I would be happy with some kind of mongrel poly that had all of the Summit features with those beautiful Korg filters... :hyper:

Or you could get a Minilogue xd and a xd module and polychain them if you feel that the 4 voices is not enough :)

Not much savings vs ease of use for that route though. XD is $1250 here, Prologue8 $2500. I might save $100 or so on a module. TBH I really don't know if I'm GASing myself anyway. Pretty sure 4-voice is enough for me, can't remember the last time I played more than 4 note chords on anything. My 106 eventually lost 2 voices and I still happily used it until I properly realized how crap it was and only nostalgia made me use it - but 4 voices didn't hinder me. I'm my own worst enemy...not sure why I'm hankering after a big poly. :?
