I learned about this challenge in January, but when this challenge involved a modular synth, I knew I wanted to try it out.

The bass line, "guitar" lead, kick, and snare were at first just one patch but evolved separately after some point. What they all have in common: a primary oscillator, a secondary oscillator an octave or so up to do FM stuff, the swing module which delays half all peaks when the primary oscillator is set to square or alternatively creates an interesting distortion effect when using a sine wave, some FM is applied, or noise is layered in. I also had a formant module and pafnuty applied directly after the primary oscillator and noise generator. The wobbliness of the "guitar" is because an 8 step sequencer is modulating the formant vowel. And yes, the formant vowel system is in place on the kick and snare too. I don't remember what vowel they're set to, but it's very much doing an uhh or oohh or eeehh whether you like it or not. Shoutout to Vult not only for the knobs module but also for their snappy envelope generators (i forget what they're called) which really helped the drums sound "drumlike"

I should note that adding a swing module right after an oscillator is essentially just crappy phase modulation.

This was out of schemes for me, I made an "all in one" patch and played it live using only the mouse, like tweaking some knobs and then reloading the patch, then again same routine.
And never stopping to record the audio out. Fun.
The rolls are made changing the octave of the oscillator that triggers one of the sequencer.

I decided to polish it up a bit more: added a filter envelope to the pads, added velocity variation to the snares to make them more interesting, replaced reaper's stock arpegiator for bluearp to get the desired effect on one track, and did some eqing/mixing tweaks to make it more listenable. Here's my revised submission:

This is an attempt at a single instance and is a completely free running patch. I offer you a carefully selected three minute chunk of whatever this is. The title comes from a brief discussion on a potential race for the bottom of the results for #167...

As usual, this uses Tracktion Waveform Pro 12 as a host for recording. I split the four stereo channels from VM to four tracks in Waveform. The following effects were used to try to smash it into shape:
