Questions: Show notes relative function in chord (e.g. 3, 5, 7, maj7) in Rapidcomposer

Hi,
I am relatively new to Rapidcomposer.
I would love to come up with cool voicings for jazz standards. Is there any way to
display the relative function of a note for the respective chord in the Composer Window?
It would be great if the function of a note could be either shown by color (e.g. 3rd is green) or displayed in the note instead of the absolute note name.
This way it would be very easy to come up with great voicings without too much thinking.
Thanks and have a great day
Jens

couple of places to look at for this.. first, go to settings misc., and it the search box type "note" all the settings for note related stuff.
next place is the track. There is a hamburger menu with several coloring options. To see note names on the note in the phrase, the setting is actually named "parameters"...
also in setting for the UI area, look for colors of the different types of notes as well.. default usually ok, but, you can change those too.

Thanks!
However, the composition tab still does not show the note interval in the chord.
For example, in the default composition upon RC startup, the first chord is C-Chord.When I generate chords by dragging the "Chord Generator" onto the "Stereo Grand" track, the chord notes are labelled:
#3 > G4
#2 > E4
#1 > C4
I am looking for this chord note labelling:
#3 > 5
#2 > 3
#1 > 1
It looks like the melody editor displays the note interval in the chord e.g. "III > E4".
I would like to have the same labelling in the composition tab. A coloring would also be nice according to chord note.
Thanks
Jens

Your question is a good one. It used to work like that, instead of #1, #2, #3, etc the chord notes were displayed Root, 3rd, 5th in older versions, however this confused users, because there is no guarantee that the second chord note is a 3rd, or the third chord notes is a 5th. E.g. a chord consisting of Root, 2nd, 4th, 5th, these labels would be misleading.
I try to come up with a better notation in the next beta version.
Thanks,
Attila

I liked the idea of color coding the notes, 2nd's, 3rd's, 5th's, etc. but man, that is a lot of analysis every time to paint the notes.musicdevelopments wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 11:18 am Your question is a good one. Yes, color coding is a very good idea! Today I added improvements to note labels. There are 3 new settings under 'Chords' so you have more control over the labels:

The notes look like this:

I fear this would result misunderstandings because these are the chord notes with no transposition. When you transpose phrases these labels won't be correct.
I am thinking of adding another option to display transposed note attributes...
Thanks,
Attila

This is such a helpful feature having numbers displayed as distance from root.
Will this also be added inside the melody generator.
Another feature that would really benefit uses, would be a update the rest section.
(Variations section)
Having the ability to add rest after each note with the option of how many beats per rest.
It may seem like a none important request but it opens up a lot of options having the ability to create space in between notes.
Example one would be a lot of generators don't have modern syncopation, having the ability to create the space you want between notes gives you the option of creating your own syncopation.
Another example would be you could take any custom phrase from any genre and change the syncopation. Which in return could mean you could take a melody from a rock track and turn it into a reggae Melody.
Also inside the generators when you go to rhythm processing
There's no option to add rests after each note.
I understand you're not a producer but from a users perspective space is one of the most important aspects when creating music.
Hope you can update this.
Thanks

Wow, thanks Attila! This is awesome!
I would really love to be able to see how the guidetones in Jazz chord progressions lead into each other.
With this update I can watch the 3rd and 7ths moving gracefully.
Cheers
Jens

Color coding chord notes started to work today
You can set up colors for each chord note. I am not sure if this is suitable for a default color scheme. For 1,3 and 5 the same green color is used:

(The first chord has a voicing that removes 1 and 3.)
I try to build a beta version tomorrow.
Thanks,
Attila

Good news: the beta version with the note label and color improvements is available now.
Thanks Jens, for requesting these! Please let me know if you don't have the beta version download links...

Hi Attila
Is it not possible to have this feature in the other generators where you can decide what chord voicing or notes you want to be generated inside your Bassline and Melody.
Not sure if you've noticed but with chat gpd you can ask it for the best notes for melodies and chord progressions for any of your favourite artist or genres. Being able to take that information and enter inside of RC would bring us one Step Closer to the whole midi learn functionality where we could feed RC the information for the results that we're looking for.

Hi lovemusic15,
what I am planning is better: there will be a Machine Learn tab, where you can train a neural network for your favourite artist or genre by providing MIDI files, or selected tracks from MIDI files. You can save the 'style' information (the training results) which you can use anytime later to generate a similar style. This is what I am working on now, and I need a few weeks without distractions.
No, I did not know that you can ask this from ChatGPT... I'll try that, but I am sure using the actual notes from your favourite artist would give better results.
Thanks,
Attila

Hi Attila,
the new labelling and coloring is great.
However, I would really love it if the note labelling would also indicate if the interval is minor or major e.g. 3 for major 3rd and b3 for minor 3rd. The same for the 7th chords. So in my example, the 3rd of the Im7 chord would be b3 and the 7th would be b7.
Also one could consider to slightly shade the color of the note if it is minor e.g. b3.
Thanks and have a great day
