When contested about NFR legalities in the GA thread they did say they would comply with local laws, such as EU based around resale, and to contact support under those circumstances. Still a poor show given the high price points and use of iLok which can manage transfers.trackbout wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:09 pm They've been getting thoroughly roasted in the GS thread for selling NFRs, even with the aggressive comment deletion that GS does for UA. Doesn't seem like the native move is helping the brand much, will be interesting to see if they reconsider that position.

Yeah, I have no issue with dongle at all - I liked the Cubase one. The idea of a dongle for multiple plugins doesn't bother me at all, but it's PACE. I know it was many years ago, but I can hold grudges for a long timeTronam wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 8:46 pm I used to despise all things iLok for years, but now it's become my favorite method of copy protection. It is by far the easiest system for managing authorizations across hundreds of plugins. Most devs provide 2 or 3 licenses each and I can quickly move them around between dongle, machine or cloud. I know that might be a bit of a hot take, especially considering how reviled they always used to be in the old days.I've been here since 2002, so I remember.

That's partially true. They allow dongle and cloud, just not machine authorization, but maybe that'll change in the future. They said they're looking into it.kritikon wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:30 amYeah, I have no issue with dongle at all - I liked the Cubase one. . I thought UAD's iLok was cloud only though? I thought I read earlier that they don't allow dongle or machine?

Ya it just seems unnecessary, and unwise. The confidence with which they proclaim the superiority of their plugins is inconsistent with their fear of people selling them. It also kind of projects crappy vibes to block people from doing something that the vast majority of devs allow.db3 wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:48 pmWhen contested about NFR legalities in the GA thread they did say they would comply with local laws, such as EU based around resale, and to contact support under those circumstances. Haha! That’s a bit of a stretch. Cute, but a stretch.

Here's a NKS conversion for UAD Minimoog with all presets and previews - I'm also creating these for Polymax and Opal

I am finding a few problems with param automation - it seems they don't expose every param to hosts which is annoying as it means some things can't be controlled using Komplete Kontrol. Also some params seem to be exposed for learning but when you try and actually do anything with them they vanish - it's very weird. For example any of the LFO modulation options can be assigned to a knob in Komplete Kontrol using learn but don't appear in the dropdown of automation params and if you have assigned several just modulating one makes the whole lot suddenly vanish. Consequently I've found it's safest to assign everything from the dropdown automation list rather than using learn.

Anyway here are the NKS patches for Opal now too:

I've been complaining about the poor automation/mapping experience with the UAD instruments to anyone who will listen. There are hardwired MIDI CC assignments that cannot be overwritten or modified, there are params that can't be automated at all, their instruments are a bit of a mess frankly.aMUSEd wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 11:31 am I am finding a few problems with param automation - it seems they don't expose every param to hosts which is annoying as it means some things can't be controlled using Komplete Kontrol. Yeah I’ve assigned everything I can for Komplete Kontrol but these params that appear to be available for automation but just vanish if you try and modulate just one of them made it slow going at first - it makes no sense to have params that appear to be available but aren’t really

Just a head's up that the Fairchild Collection is getting ported to native tomorrow. The iLok licenses have been deposited.

So I have the native versions but if I got a UAD interface would the DSP versions also be licensed and visa versa? Not that they need it tbh - they are seriously CPU efficient considering the sound quality - even at 96khz and low buffer sizes (I'm guessing they may be optimised for 96 actually).

They're actually running at 192khz internally.aMUSEd wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:36 pm So I have the native versions but if I got a UAD interface would the DSP versions also be licensed and visa versa? I'm honestly not sure if UA would honor UADx to native DSP. If you're on Gearspace, you may want to check the UADx/Spark thread to see if that's been addressed.
