This is along the lines of "anecdotal" (largely because I cannot remember where I heard it, so file this under "FWIW",) but I heard somewhere, that it is. I wish that I could remember more.

ImpOscar 2, however, still sounds good.

Echoes in the Attic wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 2:58 am The whole point is to hear a difference when the resonance is cranked.
I hear it the most with Resonance at 5 or 6. Very pronounced then. At 7 or above, the resonance completely drowns out everything else. At 0, I can hear a difference but it's subtle.
First two examples: resonance 5, filter 1 then filter 2. Last two examples: resonance 3, filter 1 then filter 2. Spot the difference.

I think you are right: the filter type switch does not work. Flipping the switch while holding a note ( at any resonance setting ) does not reveal any audible difference. The visible spectrum stays exactly the same as well. Looks like it's the 'modern' filter. Not a demo thing either, I'm using a registered version.
Vortifex wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 9:06 am Btw, is it possible to get freerunning PWM when not playing in legato mode? I can't find a way to stop it resetting with each keypress.
Do you mean the sawtooth/inverted sawtooth faux PWM ? If it resets, hitting a note repeatedly would have each attack sound the same, but I don't hear that happening in any mode. Looking at a scope, while in regular mono mode, also shows phase creeping along as expected too.

It's so great to see Gforce back in business , they ve been killing it for the past 2 years :tu:
HOwever , when setting drive and reso at max and tweaking the filter cutoff it aliases like a mopho just like the minimonsta 1 , not good .
BOth filter type set to original and modern does NOT improve it , no difference at all
Imho , monark is still king
Ouch that’s what I was afraid of. Can’t have a competitive mini with a 2005 filter.
It's not the 2005 filter. This one sounds much cleaner and responds much smoother to modulation too. It's particularly audible at short EG settings with with moderate resonance. And also when FM-ing the filter. Self resonance sounds very different too. Much better. The original Monsta sounds screechy in comparison.

The filter sounds better compared to MM 1 , but it still craps out when using feedback-drive +heatlhy amount of reso .

You think a 2005 sound engine with a new ui is less yawn inducing than newer more accurate emulations like the Legend and Model 72? So what you’re saying is that sound does not matter to you. Having been around a while matters though.
No, I think an updated 2023 sound engine + a new UI + a new browser (the best preset browser I've used, too) is less yawn inducing. Get it yet?

You seem to make a lot of posts based on assumptions you haven't bothered to confirm as true or BS. Read the update list & try the synth first, maybe?

I think it sounds great, personally.
I did try it. That’s the basis of my post. Not words on a website. I see from a later post that you joined me in my BS assumptions (aliasing) that were based on actually using it. Nice of you to take your own advice and actually try the synth.

I will say though that despite all that, I don’t mind the sound. Just don’t think it’s quite up to the more recent competitors.

Sounds like there’s been improvements over the original so that’s good. I haven’t compared to v1. Just to the other 4 or 5 Minimoog vsts I have. On the fence about upgrading. It’s not bad and cheap upgrade price, but I just think others are better.

I think it’s safe to say they are upgrading all of them to the latest formats, Ui resizing and browsers plus other goodies probably like vintage mode etc. I can’t wait for imposcar3!

Filter sweep (max attack and decay) with emphasis at max and feedback around 10 dB. max quality on minimonsta 2 running at 96Khz. Same settings (obviously not quality) on original minimonsta.

So you love it, even though you realise it needs fixing. How does that work?

Is that aliasing? It's not what I think of as aliasing. But it definitely sounds wrong.

Needless to say, I have less than no interest in this. I got MM1 for free, through Focusrite/Novation, and never so much as loaded it up. If I need to be reminded how frustrating a MiniMoog can be, I have The Legend. That said, if the new bass-preserving filter actually works, it may improve things.

Easy, it works like this: I like the filter sound (resonance), it makes good sounds. But there are times when you want both the low end and the high end, even though many sounds are either low frequency or high frequency.

So yeah, it is possible to like a filter character but wish it didn't' lose bass.

Sorry, that still makes no sense. You like the filter's character or you don't. It's like saying "I like green cars, but I wish they were blue".

Oh yeah, definitely this. The ImpOscar 2 UI is so small on my monitor that I keep thinking that I must be missing something to be able to make it larger. Then I remember how old it is. :dog:

You do realise it does actually have a 'make it larger' option already? Using that I don't find it too small on my 5K Mac Studio display
