Final Countdown - JX8P (red herring)
A LEGEND RETURNS - JUPITER 8
thrilling reveal - Jupiter 8

Post

I want it to be a JX8P, not interested in JP8. JP6 would be interesting though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a JP6 thingy, but knowing Cherry, there'd be enhancements. Maybe 12 voices instead of 6, extended arp functions, 4 LFO's instead of 2, 2 filters instead of 1, expanded waveforms in the oscillators, maybe an additional synthesis type besides subtractive, etc.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit.

In one interview with Cherry Audio, Dan described their team discussion in regards to the Mercury 4 (Jupiter 4). They realized all of the suggested enhancements added up to a Jupiter 8.

So they had to back up and keep the Mercury 4 simple as possible, as that was what made the original Jupiter 4 what it was. It's a fine line for them, deciding what to enhance while keeping the essence of the original intact.

cherry should do more A/B comparos with the presets of the gear they are cloning.

Even though I’ve had UVI Vintage Vault for ages it’s taken me a lot of time to trawl through everything on there and just recently I tried out some UVX80 patches, based on the old AKAI AX80, and they sounded superb. So if they’re a good reflection of the sound that the keyboard actually makes then I’d love that.

But, in terms of holes in the current Cherry Audio offerings for famous old synths the EMS Synthi would be most obvious IMO even if it is ground already covered by Xils Labs, Arturia etc.

Outside bet… Alpha Juno

Yes, and in this Memorymode/Memorymoog comparison, they sound remarkably close! I doubt that anyone could tell them apart in a blind test.

But the Memorymode is a software plugin running "in the box". So just for grins, I opened up Memorymode and slapped on the T-RackS Tape Machine 80 with the "Saturated" preset to see if I could make it sound even better...

It's subtle, but the soft synth with that tape saturation added sounds just a bit more "analog" to me.

Always excited in hearing what they will come out with. Not long left now.

Me neither - but damn I'd like an Alpha from Cherry.

I think it’s a Jupiter 8x :
- in the video, it’s obvious it’s a Jupiter 8 (considering the dimensions of the ofuscated keyboard
- in the last post, « the final countdown », it refers to the Jx8-p

The difference between the 2 synths are, starting from J8 to Jx8p : extended cross-modulation types, « dynamics » (velocity) settings, an envelope controlled mixer and a chorus.
So an extended Jupiter 8 based of the enhanced feature sets of the jx8-p 😀

It's rare, and follows their 2-in-1 line.
OK, but how does that relate to the video (very clear Duran Duran-themed track, a band linked with the JP8), and the 41H clue (the MIDI manufacturer byte for Roland), and the shape of the synth in the video (which looks like a JP8)..?

Or maybe you think the clues are *all* just red herrings?
Because Dire Straits used the DX-1 for Money For Nothing. But the video doesn't sound like an FM synth, so that can't be right.

My guess it will be an analog emulation of Sylenth1 v2 (unscalable one) in digital form.
